Went to Old San Juan yesterday just to hang around . Since the day was nice ( we have had lately a lot of rain ) I took my camera . Here are some of the snapshots of the oldest city in America , San Juan , Puerto Rico . The city is over 500 years old , built by the spaniards . Hope you like them .

I saw this three and thought it would make for a nice pic. It is called Flamboyan .

Wanted to take a pic of the trolley but this guy got in the way , what ever .

You can see the harbor at the background .

This is " Tapia Theater" built in 1832 .

This is the capital building constructed I believe at 1932 . A contest was given to see who could design the nicest capital building with a $5000 first prize. The winner was an american . There were entries from all over the world.

Most buildings in old San Juan were built by the spaniards in the 16th century. This is more or less a representation of the design of most of the buildings . You can see the spanish influence all over .

Stature of Christopher Columbus at the "Plaza de Colon".

This little bird caught my eye a just had to take a shot .

Manny do you use the auto-correct distortion setting? I find it works well, especially for straightening wide angle shots.

I dont' think I do , I'll check it out and thank you for the comment.

Not to start a flame war, but while San Juan might be the oldest city under US possesion, St. Augustine, FL is generally considered to be the oldest City in America.

I just read at wikipedia that the oldest city in America is Santo Domingo at the Dominican Republic and the second oldest is San Juan so excuse me guys , I was wrong . It was constructed in 1521 by spain . San Cristobal which is a fortress that totally surrounds the city ( not to be confused by "El Morro" ) is the oldest structure of it's kind in America and " La Fortaleza " is the oldest executive mansion in America .

Puerto Rico has been attacked continously during the 16 and 17 century by pirates and corsairs not to mention Holand , France , Portugal and England which once attacked Puerto Rico with the famed Sir Francis Drake as Captain of the ship. El Morro castle was designated as " Patromony of Humanity" .

Nice pics. Have you done any HDR post processing?
Not really . I do want to learn and will do so but right now I'm just getting to grips with different techniques of Post Processing and trying out different Post Processing programs which of all of them I believe the one that has given me the best results for Raw files has been Nikons own Capture NX2 . Taking about HDR can you recommend a good inexpensive HDR program ?

I always thought he oldest city was Sault Ste. Marie Michigan but it turns out it's the 3rd oldest city in the USA. I believe it's the oldest city that has kept it's orginal name however.

Nice picture BTW!

When I mentioned the oldest city being San Juan I meant the oldest city in all of America that includes Canada , USA , Central and South America . Turns out I was wrong . San Juan is the second being Santo Domingo the first oldest city in all of America .

Now, I must say that even before Columbus there existed majestic cities in South and Central America , mainly constructed by Incas , Mayans and Aztecs . The incas were so advance in many areas that they even had design a acueducts system that conducted water up the mountain side . When the conquistadores arrived they were marveled by the grandeur of their cities .

So when I say the oldest city what I really mean is the oldest city constructed by those first Europeans who arrived in the new world.

This is correct. I was wondering when this subject would come up. Problem is we in the USA have become accustomed to say America, when the term/name includes all of the coutries you correctly identified, including Canada of course.

The native, before Europeans arrived, are spectacular but apparently are not counted, would be impossible to determine which was/is older, but none are still a city since the term applies to "continous as a city."

...that will be a good and curious challenge (I think), to capture a "mime" with macro lense.
Thanks for posting
You guys crack me up . :) that truly would be a challenge . Take a macro photo of an insect smaller then a mosquito that never stays put for more then a fraction of a second. Wow !
