This is really Henry's massive marketing, but it is worth attending.

This time, I was dissapointed in some ways, but impressed in others.

The parking lot at the International Centre in Malton was packed - I ended up parking offsite. However, there were other shows happening, and the camera show was really not all the crowded.

I played with an A77 with the 16-105 Sony lens. Nice. If I win a lottery, this is definitely on my short list!

Also played with an A900 and 135mm F1.8. I could use this just fine......

Sigma had a 200-500mm F2.8 zoom lens out for people to play with. Wow! I deliberatly did NOT look at the price tag.....

Magazines were there, other lesser ( :) ) brands were there, Tamron was there with a very small booth, lots of seminars.

My reasons for dissapointment:
  • The Sony booth did not have a 35mm F1.8 lens in Alpha mount
  • the Sigma booth did not have a 30mm F1.4 lens in Alpha mount. They showed me one in Nikon mount, which was kind of useless to me....
  • Henry's was not giving any show prices for purchases. At least, not for the ones I looked at - Alpha bodies seemed to be the same price as in the store, and the price for the 35mm F1.8 was $249.
There are a couple of other things I wanted to see about, but since there were no show discounts, I left and will get them elsewhere. This is simple stuff - a case for holding filters, lens cleaning supplies, etc.

Anyone else go? Any other impressions/deals/feedback?

I went yesterday. I had a free ticket that I got while I was at a Henry's store before.

That Sigma lens is $32,000 and is actually 200-1000mm (but f5.6 from 400-1000).

The show is basically Henry's way of making additional money. I'm surprised so many people buying things, thinking they are getting a "deal" because it's a show. The seminars are quite useful though, specially if you have the opportunity to ask questions for the presenter after the seminar.

The Sony still-camera booth was getting quite some attention (Sony also had a pro-video booth way at the back). Of course, a lot of Nikon and Canon folks at the show. When I visited the Nikon and Canon booths, I felt like I was looking at out-dated technology, in contrast to let's say Sony and Panasonic. I thought Olympus had the most beautiful booth with the water displays and all. I wanted a chance to hold the medium-format Pentax 645D, but it was sitting behind glass. The large pro-video section at the back with Humber College video school and their truck was quite neat. In general, lots of manufacturers represented at the show.

I went primarily to see the A77 first-hand. The grip fits like a glove. I don't think you can have a better grip than that in any make! The shutter is very quiet. The tilt LCD screen feels solid when moving with its brackets. The camera was a pre-production model as can be seen from the metallic microphone plate. The A65 also has the same grip-style. Also, I noticed that the new Sony 16-50 2.8 SSM is made in China. I was suprised about this, as I expected Japan or even Thailand.

If you want to take photos of beautiful models and show them off, then that is another reason to go!

I had completely forgotten about this, I'll try to go now. I should take my a77 with me and show it off :D
Do you have a ticket? If not I can email you one. Legally!

Enjoyed your model shots a lot. Really nice techniques (and the models).

I was there, too.
Bought two point and shoot cameras.

Samsung ST500(dual screen) for $100.00 before tax and Sony T110 for $130 before tax.

Took a look at NIKON V1, J1. Nice but useless.

Wanted to buy a Nikon D300s, but they ask for $1450.00 and at the same time AdenCamera sells it for $1275.00

Noticed that you used Sony A-SLT55. Now at Blacks, the Sony SLT35 is on sale for $550.
Might pull the trigger. But the A77 was really massive and impressive.

Some Canadian retailers have better prices than B&H:

Canon T3i kit for $750.00
Sony NEX 5N with 18-55mm kit for $650.00
Canon 7D body for $1395.00
Nikon D7000 with 18-105mm kit for $1297.00
Nikon D3100 kit for $550.00

I think Sony's SLT35 beats both Nikon 5100 and Canon T3i.
