Love the image with three in the corner, others are excellent quality too just that this shows the competition at high ebb. If I were a magazine editor, this is the one I would want to hgihllight an article.

Is that the non OS HSM II or the newer OS version? I ask because I have been comparing the published test results on these to Nikon and Tamron.

Thanks

Thanks for all the comments.

I have been very impressed with the D7000; the pcitures are really sharp out of the camera.

Just need to get out there and try and get some long exposure light trail shots, which I have always enjoyed doing.

Much thanks. Your pictures give a better impression of the lens than the reviews, looks great to me.

Hmmm. Lenstips mentions decreasing performance at the borders at 200mm, but yours look fine, detail is retained in the lettering at the borders and the flying dust.

Also, it mentions chromatic abberations, did you have to do anything in PP for this?

I am wondering about reviews........how field relevant, or just a guide?

Thanks for this....I am now strongly reconsidering this option.

Take care.

Hi,

I have made no adjustment for CA.

All these pictures are crops so I guess there will be no evidence of softness at the edges since the edges are no longer in the photo.

I can post some full size un- cropped pictures if that would help you?

If not too much trouble, that would be helpful, thanks. One at f2.8 (the last) and one other at f8.

Much thanks again.

Had to go away for a few days hence the delay in replying.

The first pic here is shot at f2.8 and the other at f8.

Full images, not crops.

Hope these help.

Much thanks, I figured you were busy. These look good to me in the edges at the focused length and even the unfocused borders (depth of field) look good.

Thanks very much, this makes me less wary and more happy if I go this way, because a decent lens with fast focusing and good clarity etc is what I am after, because I will be doing some fast sport like you (including horse racing).

It is only a hobby, so spending 2,100+ for the top of the line does not make much sense, even though from what I see one could sell such as the Nikon VRII after a couple years for not too much loss, if one wished.

Also, its my only real hobby now (apart from reading and running lol), so spending on equipment is not as bad as some people who spend with golf clubs and fees, etc etc. so spending on a lens may not be so bad if its my only 'thing'.

But at this time this Sigma looks like a good approach.

I spent a bit of time shooting yesterday and found that I was at the 200mm of the 18-200 quite a bit, and cropped in some too.

So, might get a 300 f4 or some such later on )I am not a huge fan of teles, though they may do their job, Do you use a teleconverter and how do you find the result?

Much thanks again for taking the time!

Very nice work.

I apologize for digressing from photography for a minute, but these bikes all have some kind of device attached to the rear frame and attached to something else down low behind the rear tire. I've never seen this before, even on speedway bikes. Do you know what it is?

I belive this is a dirt deflector, stops the dirt coming up and hitting the rider I guess. Speedway tracks are vert dusty and have a lot of loose dirt.
