I don't check in for a few days and look what happens

It's the STF mental telepathy thing LOL

Hope you enjoyed it ?
I did

Sorry to post fun in your serious post Ron
but, every once in a while we have to all sit back and laugh a
little, you know ?
What serious post ;-)
What will really make me laugh... is if that guy who claims he 's
going to return his camera, is surprised to find out that Sony
reconfigures the new sticks to be backward compatible with all sony
products. LOL
That would be the "moron" comment that ruffled a feather or two.... ok one newbee feather.
Then what's he going to do ? Just curious he he

Ron -

A few days??? We were saying MONTHS back that this would probably
be the case. :-))
Actually I do pop in here..... I just start cotroversy when I start a new post ;-)
C'mon, man. Don't be disappointed now.
I got 6 128 meg sticks .... I can live with that.
Besides, there is some solid evidence that not all will be lost here.
The rumor factory runs rampent once again LOL
Just wait for the news, sit tight, and enjoy the sticks that you do
have for now. They still record the great shots that you're used to
taking with the Cyber-shot. :-)
Bigger than 128meg not compatible????

How many of you take a full 128 meg MS of pictures and keep them
all????
Y'know, I agree that people should stop whining about the rumored MSP's incompatibilities, but this is about the stupidest statement I've read on this forum. I myself, and I'm sure many others, often fill 128MB sticks and keep all the pictures. I've gone out and taken 300MB of shots in one day, and only deleted 10 or 12 when I got home. I almost never delete shots directly from the camera unless there is something obviously wrong (way out of focus/frame/etc), because it's not always easy to tell on the small LCD of my 717 whether a picture is worth keeping. Sometimes, pictures that look bad on the LCD turn out looking fine when I get the home, and sometimes, shots that seem fine on the LCD turn out bad for some reason when I get them on a good sized display. So please, don't make stupid assumptions about what others do, because some people do wish they had more space to work with.

Not like I never start arguements. hahahaha...LOLROF... but you "do" delete way out of "focus/frame/etc" (your words) pics..... then why was it a "stupid assumption"?

I have been taking pictures (I NEVER call myself a photographer) for 40 years. Even when shooting 24 exposier film.... never... never did I get a 24 exposier roll "keeper" (all 24 shots worth keeping)

Yeah, just a quick detour to laugh my asss off!! :-D
Well at least we don't get down on each other...... oh wait......

OK I guess it happens here once in a while. AF problems???? go to
the Canon forums.... I don't have that with my D60...... WB
problems???? HMMMM I don't have that either.....

My Sony 707 is perfect too.
I've never said anything like "Canon is better than Sony."

All I've ever said was that I thought the Memory Stick issue was a flaw, while admitting that all cameras have flaws. As I mentioned before, the only reason I couldn't resist gloating is because of the vicious arguments I've seen from a few outspoken Sony fans who felt the need to defend the MS issue to the death. Well, forgive me if I know spit on their graves...

If you think I'm just a jerk and a troll, just do a quick search for my postings (before the MS issue came out today) and I think you'll find I'm generally a pretty easy going guy...

And hey, I own a Sony S85, so I've been reamed by Sony jusat like the rest of you. The difference is that I don't pretend to like it.

It's a stupid assumption because you assume that I delete so many pictures right after taking them that I never run into problems with 128MB memory sticks. This is not the case. I've missed more than one good shot because I've been had to switch a memory stick at an inopportune moment, and having a larger stick would solve this. On top of this, I'd like to be able to only have to keep track of 2 or so memory sticks instead of the 3 or 4.

In my opinion, a memory stick should be capable of holding at least 100 shots on it. When I had a CD200, I was fine with the 158MB mini-CDRWs, because that was about 140 pictures, which was plenty for a single day. My Canon S200 is similar; I have a 128MB flash card in it, and at max quality, that's about 120 shots. My F717, on the other hand, gets about 55 shots to a 128MB memory stick. 256MB would be ideal, IMHO.

How about:

G: someone who believes that every shot is a learning experience, and not every shot has to be perfect?

Here's a little multiple choice of my own:

Anyone who claims nobody has usage patterns different than their own is either:

A: egocentric
B: short sighted
C: a jerk
D: probably incapable of reciting the first 6 letters of the alphabet
E: all of the above

I remember one guy over the Nikon forum argue that he is after Picture of The Year and changing memory stick may somehow may cause the miss opportunity for POTY. Then there are several guys over the same forum ask "What if nature calls?", "What if you need to change battery?"(Do you have spare battery), "What if you needto pee?". Can you do all that right at the scene while taking shots.
On top of this, I'd like to be able to only have to keep
track of 2 or so memory sticks instead of the 3 or 4.
Why is that? Is changing memory stick a big deal for you? Or Maybe you are having difficulties in labelling the stick 1, 2, 3, 4...?

When I started this thread..... I had seen the gripe threads about the 128 meg limit. This could still be imaginary folks.... don't panic yet. And if it is true, you do have options. You may not like the options, but you do have options.

So what did I discover?

My friends here are still my friends, even with my absence and lack of posting, for the last month or two.

I have a couple of new Sony friends with good heads on their shoulders.

The internet is like walking in central park in the dark.

And some people do smoke crack and post responces to my posts ;-)

Y'know what, this is pointless. It's like arguing with a 6 year old, only less mentally stimulating. Your argument is basically "I don't feel a need for larger memory sticks, so obviously nobody needs them". Nevermind that other people use their cameras in different ways than you do.

Oh, and by making blanket statements and claiming nobody on this forum ever keeps a full memory stick, you are talking about me. You're making blanket generalizations about a large group of people based on your own preferences.

But whatever. You're perfect, and you look at the LCD of your camera and immediately know that an image is not good enough. I'm obviously inferior because I'd rather keep taking shots instead of poring over every shot I take on a 2" LCD. A 2" LCD that, I might add, often shows pictures brighter than they really are. But really, your lucid arguments have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is the best technique for deciding the worthiness of a picture. You have shown me with your well reasoned position that doing this is obviously superior to taking it home to a correctly calibrated 19" monitor and making the decision of worthiness then.

Please, go on living in your sad little world.

First off, I'm not exactly looking for POTY. I'm an amateur at best, and I know it.

However, that doesn't change the fact that, sometimes, having to switch memory sticks is a pain. I mean, by your reasoning, we should all be happy to use 16MB MS's, because hey, changing them isn't a big deal, right?

And as for nature calling ... I can ignore that if I have to for some time. I cannot ignore "not enough space on memory stick". I like photographing animals, and sometimes they don't stay stick around for you to play with your camera. And yes, I have a backup battery, but I've hardly ever had to use it, given the 717's excellent battery life. On top of this, I'd be fine with 2 256MB sticks. I just feel 4 128MB sticks is something of a pain.

dyslexia,

You said you only took 300MB at most in a day. You are making too much of a great deal out of it. Three 128 is more than enough. Four will be better.

Yes, if you only shoot 32MB in a day max? I hope you see my reasoning. See above how many shots you tops up in a day? only 300MB and you sound like managing 3 instead of 2 128MB a great deal?

Instead of bitching about MS, why don't you return the camera and get Minolta, Canon or Nikon.
