I don't check in for a few days and look what happens

There's a vast difference between sarcasm and name-calling, like
your "MORON" comment. The former requires wit, subtlety, and
intelligence. The latter is devoid of all that. English--some get
it, some don't (that's sarcasm and irony, fyi).
Oh... E X C U S E...ME. If you took it as a personal attack, may
be you should get help. Did I call you a moron? I think not.

What I was saying is.... if you have to depend on Sony for self
gratification (bigger memory... better than brand X)... sell your
camera... PERIOD....

128 meg is a lot of memory.... your pictures will not get better
with a bigger MS.

Since you have only been here for 4 days, I'm going to back off.
People who know me here will understand.

If you decide to continue this, feel free. You will be talking to
yourself.

--AH remember the good old days when they first brought out memory cards? I think they were like 1 or 2 mb and people were happy about it. Now we get all this Whining because 128 aren't big enough. I am one the NEW 717 owners and I am perfectly happy with the 128.

Well, I'm not sure that you should have bought a 717 then. There were no big sticks then. I use the video a fair bit, but if I was a hardcore videographer, I'd buy a digital video camera.

And at the 2nd highest mode you can get 20 minutes on a 128 meg stick. At the highest quality, the 707 could only go for 15 seconds in storage buffer anyway.
In case you guys didn't notice, the F717 can record MPEG's, and
some of us not-so-hardcore owners actually use it, for taking
videos of kids and such (imagine that!). It eats up a lot of space
and can quickly fill a 128MB stick. So while 128MB would be more
than sufficient for still photos, it's a different matter if videos
are taken. Purist photographers might eschew the video mode, but
it's a pretty handy but memory intensive feature for others, and I
suspect a lot of the upset people fall into this camp.

That's a fair point, Shutter. When I bought, I was relying (perhaps naively) on representations from Sony and others that memory stick capacity would go up. I think others who have expressed frustration in this forum were disappointed for the same reason. I can live with 128MB, but it would've been nice to have a longer upgrade path for the memory, and it would have been nice to have Sony be more upfront about their memory path.

I would agree that they don't do anyone any favors by releasing a new camera like great things are going to happen but then not even make it compatible with their new stick. It does make me wonder what's around the corner...

How dare you call me open minded? (sarcasm)

PLEASE read this thread from the beginning. You were the one who took the "moron" comment personally. It was not directed at any one "personally"

In fact...... the term was used BEFORE you stuck your nose into the thread.

If you were or are offended.... WHATEVER... ( I'm 51 years old so my children would love that I use that term)

So if you took the word "moron" as a personal attack.............. ( this is for my children)....................WHATEVER !!!

You are of course assuming that the F717 will not be able to use
the new stick. That is yet to be determined. I wouldn't worry
about it until we receive official word from Sony. As of right
now, there is not much to get too worked up about.

Sure there are workarounds toi the Memory Stick's pathetic limitations. If there weren't, then nobody would be buying Sony cameras.

But this little news item is vindication for all of us that have criticized Sony for forcing their shittty proprietary format on their customers and keeping them from using the much cheaper, much higher capacity CF cards and MicroDrives.

And this should be a nice, brisk slap in the face of all of you who bristled at the notion that the Memory Stick was a flaw, rather than an asset, in Sony digital cameras. This should be a nice kick in the asss to all of you who moronically believed every lie that Sony through your way and every broken promise of new capacities just around the corner.

Pardon me while I gloat...

I still have a pretty good camera. I still have a digital wallet for when 128 is not enough ( rare).

Not the first time marketing types has stretched the truth.

Perhaps I will go take pictures and enjoy why I bought this camera.
Bigger than 128meg not compatible????

How many of you take a full 128 meg MS of pictures and keep them
all????

None? I thought so.......

If all your shots are works of art... 128 megs is enough.... if not
then buy a couple more and take 5 seconds and change to a new MS.

Erase the not so good shots and move on.

Get a grip. Or buy a different camera... move on ... and quit
whining.

I have a 707... several 128 meg MS

I also have a Canon D-60 and a couple of 128 meg CF cards.

THINK ABOUT IT !

Flame me if you want..... The people who know me won't

--I agree with you 100% when I had the 5700 most of my cards were
128 and never was a big issue. Now that I made the switch to the
717 I just bought 4 sticks and plan to buy a few more. Only takes a
second to change anyhow no big deal.

Tanglefoot1947 717

It's certainly an eventful day. I say, let them whine, ...get it
out of their system. Then when the news comes that the pro sticks
are compatible with the 717 we'll be mature about it and not laugh.
Oh no... you poor bastardd... You still believe that the new MS will work just fine on your shiny, new, $900 F717 camera...

But hey, let's look on the bright side. Now a whole cottage industry can grow around designing caes, holders, belts, and bandoliers for you to store all the Memory Sticks you'll be needing! The economy needs all the help it can get!

But I would rather have four 128's instead of one 512..
If one sick fails for any reason, then I only loose up to 60 pics..
While I'm happy as a clam, secure in the knowledge that my 512MB CF card is perfectly reliable and safely tucked in my camera all the time, you should take care not to loose any of those little Memory Sticks floating around in your pocket.

Anyone got a gripe about Sony, MS, focus, WB, WHATEVER?

Check the other Digital camera forums. You will find the same... or similar gripes there. ANY FORUM that has to do with ANY brand camera.

I have D-60.... sheesh... the gripes in the Canon SLR forum are absolutly stupid. Same in here, or in any of the Digital camera forums.

My Sony is flawless...... I'm happy

My D-60 is flawless.... I'm happy

If you're not happy............................. SELL IT...... return it.........buy a Hampster.......get a life.

Or.... take a lot of shots........ have fun.......... take more shots......... have more fun............ or worry about the equipment, and gripe. Then consider.... maybe it's NOT the cameras fault..... maybe it's YOU.

My wife and I are going to Ocho Rios next summer for our
anniversary and renewal of vows ( I'm a great husband ... LOL) ...
taking the 707 and 6 MS..... 6 times more chance of bringing back
pictures.
Careful, that's also six times the likelihood of losing one of them...
