Switched from G3 to GH2.. WOW

they're not as bad as everyone says. It doesn't make any difference though, as I have shot RAW+JPEG for years with all of my cameras, except my LX5. It's really a waste of hardware to shoot JPEG-only with most new cameras.

G3 and GH2 are both good. I got the GH2 because I like the handling -- the grip and controls -- and I tend to use long lenses (14-140, 100-300). G3 has an edge in JPG, IMO -- but I shoot RAW+JPG.

lost the charger. It is likely a steal (or called it a stolen camera).

It isn't "a little heavier". It's almost 100% heavier. The difference in lenses is even more dramatic for the most part.

The D7000 is a much more robust body with an alloy frame. The GH2 should really be compared to a D5100, you are talking about a 5 ounce difference there. If you think that is a big difference then I'm not sure what to say. The G3 -> GH2 difference is 2 ounces, is that a big difference as well? As I pointed out in a previous post, the lens weight differences are not that dramatic.

a G3 as a second body - lack of mic port and new m4/3 lenses as well as new Sony models nixed that idea - so I read everything I could on the new model in July and August.

Exactly. If you have this sort of hardware and don't take a few seconds to adjust the Auto White Balance and set your own white balance(s) using a grey card, it's also a waste. Using a grey card can give you dramatic improvement.

I use one of their key chain cards and it's always on my camera in a memory card pouch on my camera strap.

Glad to see someone else share my views on build quality of G3.

Yes - I really do agree with you. I have seen theese problems (from your post) on all the G3's i have tried in stores - all of them has the "gap", and when you "squeeze" the camera body in your hand, it makes theese cracking sounds (at least on the bottom plate).

I dont get it - why would Leica - the master of build quality, be teaming up with panasonic, when they have this bad build quality?
A shame.

If the G3 had been more robust, with a nicer feel and overall greater build quality - Tight screws, no gaps - and maybe some more configurable buttons - I probably would have kept it.

Folks keep complaining about gaps in the G3 construction. I see none on my. If you've got gaps, pllease take a picture and post. Thanks

I really like my G3 for what it is (small and light). I see no issues with the G3's build quality. When I want to use something more substantial I use my D7000 DSLR. My D7000 isn't much bigger than a GH2, but it is a more capable camera.

I have the same cameras for the same reasons. The new sensor is a big improvement over the G1. I always use the G3 like an SLR (EVF) and find the 4 custom settings available basically eliminates the need to go into the menus to change settings.
