Is NEX7's interface laggy? (video)

That is the type of thing I wouldn't make any judgement on until the final firmware is loaded.

I deeply hope you're right...as in the A77 reviews some mention a slight lag when using the thumb wheel or a delay when switching from lcd to viewfinder display.

I've tried the current Sony compacts like HX9 and HX100 and both drove me nuts because of a serious input lag.

NEX5n seems to do fine? Anyone got first hand experience?

Wasn't it also found that the A77 shipped with the wrong firmware (firmware for the older processor)? That could impact performance.

Once final firmware samples are available, then we can comment and complain if it is slow :)

I don't think it's bad with use. The lag effect doesn't seem to be cumulative as you scroll. It's pretty much the same amount of lag even when you scroll fast through the ISOs or options, etc. If you go from ISO 100 to 200, the amount of lag is similar if you scroll quickly from ISO 100 to 800.

I think what you're perceiving as lag isn't really lag.

Pay close attention to his finger. He moves the scroll wheel counterclockwise which activates iso control. Then then moves his finger as if he scrolled one stop clockwise, but he didn't. The scroll wheel doesn't move. He just slides his finger on the wheel. The next two finger movements, he actually moves the scroll wheel and the iso changes.

He's slow with his fingers to actually change the settings, I'm sure if he moved the scroll wheel faster, the system wouldn't have any trouble keeping up, hopefully. It just seems it has a slower animation speed, but not lag...

Lag would be the measurement between him touching the buttons and the screen begining to transition.

That's not how I see it -- I see:

he turns the wheel -- [latent pause] -- then it changes from Auto to 100

he turns the wheel -- [latent pause] -- then it changes from 100 to 200

Somehow am doubting that Sony can figure out how to store 10 frames per second of 24 megapixel JPEG or whatever, but can't figure out how to keep human interface menu lag reasonable.

Thus, am assuming if someone is seeing Nex 7 menu lag, it's either a function of the way the person is activating menu items, or it's unfinished firmware. In other words, am not going to give this issue serious thought until I personally try a Nex 7 menu exercise on a camera in my physical possession.

I am bit concerned with the latest Sony releases.

NEX-5 had a semi finished firmware when released. It was good they removed 3d panos, but made the rest of the camera acceptable.

NEX-5n the clicking issue - fixed now. May be I need to wait 6 months before buying this otherwise superb camera.

A77 - fantastic camera let down by some weird FW bugs.

NEX-7 seems Sony are under very high pressure to have it for X-mas sales season. This is great but ....if it costs quality...I may wait for Easter before I dare buy one.

2 out of the 3 problems you listed are firmware related. Which can be easily fixed. So it's up to whether or not you want the camera ASAP or you can wait. Always better to wait if you can, for cheaper price too.

Have you heard of amazon.com? You can try it for 30 days risk free. Problems or you don't like it, send it back for a full refund. No daring there!

One difference is that the lagging response camera had its controls set up in Chinese. Maybe the display language slows things down?

This is one of those things that you can't judge until the final firmware is released. I think Sony is really pushing to get these out ASAP. I think they were delayed 2-3 months based on the earthquake that occurred and they are working overtime now. I trust Sony to fix any firmware issues that crop up in a timely manner, unlike Fujifilm.

The interface definitely needs to react quicker than what it seen in these videos.

From what I've read, Sony already addressed this issue with the A77. We'll see what happens.
