Canon S100 and a fixed video exposure compensation?

I have done quite much video recording with my Canon s95 and sadly I very often experience that the automatic exposure gives a too light video picture. Well I can compensate for the exposure manually but I do miss a permanent adjustment for video exposure to compensate for this too light video picture.

Has anybody experienced the same thing? Do anybody know if the Canon s100 has some kind of adjustment that fix this?

I don't understand what you mean. What "too light" means? And what does this have to do with exposure compensation? Are you talking about colors?

The S100 has exposure compensation & locking for video, just like the S95 did. You can set and then lock exposure compensation, so brightness doesn't jump. It comes with custom color support, so you can change the look of saturation/sharpness/contrast. I personally shoot with these 3 on their minimum settings, "flat" as it's called, so it color grades easier in post production.

With too light I mean that the recorded video are overexposed (and therefore too light) and that happens in most types of scenes, for example in sunlight, in evening light (just after the sun has disappeared) and more.

You talks about locking the exposure compensation so the brightness doesn´t jump back again too default value. I do not find anything in the menus or other places to set and lock exposure compensation in s95. Yes, I can do it for a session but as soon as I change to one of the picture modes this exposure or turn of the camera the compensation for video mode is gone.

I want to set an exposure compensation that gives me a darker video picture, and I want it to be permanently. My conlusion is that s95 don´t have this, and I´m afraid s100 don´t have it as well.

I know what you mean and agree, that would be a nice feature. Many people say that the Canon metering system tends to over expose slightly, and its quite normal to find people using some permanent -EV, the same would work well for video IMO.

Im pretty sure my old TZ38 could do that as you could use AV, TV, P etc mode for video IIR but i see no way of doing it with the Canons, the video mode is too basic.

My S95 has absolutely zero problems with video exposure ranging from indoors to outside on the beach in bright sunshine. I would say it is pretty close to perfect when used reasonably.

If you need exceptionally darker images then just do it in post processing.

Don't understand the problem.

Not sure about that, but definitely looking forward to the full HD movie recording at 1920x1080 resolution, with a 24P output framerate on the S100. Oh, and don't forget the dedicated movie button and finally being able to zoom while recording.

Doing only very slight postprocessing in video (for example decrease exposure) decreases the quality of it very much. So in my opinion doing exposure postprocessing in video is not an option.

I do a lot of post processing on video. It is not a problem.

You cant recover blown highlights though.

To be honest i dont really have a problem with exposure when shooting video with my S95, and do always edit the footage, if nothing esle i prefer to trim it and reduce the size for uploading, but i do sometimes wish for a bit more control over it, especially as the S90/95/100 are aimed at the more experienced user.
