For fun, I am creating a large image gallery... 2560 x 1440 so click on this link, and open up the original... and max out your browser to full screen. (hopefully you have a large screen!)

http://www.pbase.com/raymondjbarlow/image/138475690/original

I added 2 images of this same shot to this gallery, 1 is 2.2 mb, the other is just less then 1 mb, wondering if anyone sees a difference between the two files?

thanks for looking!

take good care, and have a good weekend... I have 2 birds in flight programs, Saturday, and Sunday, so I am working!! as usual!

Ain't nothing off the menu for Mr. Grizzly...

Fully-grown or not, those CLAWS are not something I hope I ever see while hiking.

231mph winds on the world's most dangerous small mountain, Mt. Washington, NH- well, at least you can go below treeline before they get that intense if you have any brains.

-Outrun him? No chance.
-Climb a tree to get away from him? Nope.

-Play dead so that he moves on to some other prey? Might work- I'd rather not test it out.

-Run away faster than your hiking partner while you admonish him, "This is why I told you to quit smoking!"- well, yeah, that might work.

Seeing those claws in the safety of my living room... yeah, I can handle that.

Thanks for sharing. Great shot. I like the gallery too.

Couldn't you have put a yardstick on him? Or have someone else put a yardstick on him?

Great shooting, as ever.

--thanks for the info, and ya, a formidable force for sure., pepper spray is the best tool, works extremely well from what I have seen,, ... the guide I hired knows these bears like his own family, as he has been on this river for 20 years... tons of fish there, so no need to supply dessert! If your face to face with one in the woods, the best thing to do if you do not have spray, is to stand up and yell your a** off., be the boss in a hurry!

(I think!!)

We even had our own lunch with us.

We had a wonderful gal with us, a 14 year old lad, a 76 year old doctor from CA., and a great guy from finland, and everyone was very calm, and relaxed, as we watch several bears pass within 20 yards of us on this awesome location... shooting dream come true!

Lots more to edit!

take good care.

They are just big teddy bears. Last weekend one walked up to within 5 feet of me.

Hi Raymond. Great shot which is pretty normal for YOU :-) I agree that the Pepper Spray is THE best deterent, actually better than a .45 :-) I've had some experience with Grizzlies in Denali and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area in Montana - and the one thing you can say is they are unpredicable but a beautiful proud animal.

Just keep your food hung in trees, no food in tents, don't get between Mama and Cubs, and no bacon in your jammies :-)

Always enjoy your photos. Hope the family is doing well, you haven't posted any photos of them recently.

What fun... yes, Maria is turning 6 in December, and weighed in at 79 pounds after the trip to Philippines... She was there for a month in total, and had a great time, coming home with a bit of a tan., She is so sweet oscar, i hope you have a chance to meet her some day... she is with me for the entire Newfoundland program, and almost all local workshops around here in Ontario.

She does a great job of entertaining my guests!

take care! and ps... the Harris's took off and kept my hat... it was awesome, as my hair was static city!

This is what we were shooting yesterday Oscar, 4 year old and very awesome Bald Eagle.. the falconers had him doing 8 yard flights like clockwork, what an amazing site!

The D300 performed like a dream, iso 800 was pushing it, but with some nr on the background, things look fine to me.

I did a lot of shooting at iso 640, and will post a few later on in the week., getting ready for Tanzania next Friday, so not tons of time for all this work!

take care bud.
