Hi all

Will be in Singapore shortly and would love some recommendations for Leica heavy camera shops. Of course, I shall be swinging past the Leica Store (as a matter of course).

Cheers!
Adam

Hello Adam,

I would recommend Cathay Photo in Peninsula Plaza. I bought my Leica M9-P from them about 3 weeks ago. They are pleasant to deal with, fair pricing, and a reasonable amount of stock. If you purchase something, don't forget to get a GST refund. Enjoy your trip and happy hunting.

I second the recommendation for Cathay Photo. I bought my M8 there a few years back. Very nice to deal with.

Also, be sure to get to the airport early enough to get your GST refund. Sometimes there is a line and it may take a bit longer than normal at certain times of the day.

You should visit the Leica store at the Raffles Arcade. While it is a typical Leica factory store (i.e. no lenses in stock) they also have a wonderful gallery which is worth a look. If you do find something to buy (X1 and D-Lux 5 are usually in stock) be sure to give yourself plenty of time to claim the VAT refund at the airport. This can be a very time consuming process, especially if you have an early morning flight.

That's not always true - they do get lenses. If you visit their web page & make a contact via their page, you can make an enquiry ahead of your arrival. It's an excellent store with good service.

Yes, it is an excellent store and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I do not live in Singapore, but have visited the store on 3 different occasions, and while they did have some new inventory (X1s, M9s, D-Lux 5s) as well as some older items they have never had any new M lenses available during my visits. If you are interested in something it would be an excellent idea to call or email ahead and perhaps they will be able to accommodate your needs. Regardless, it's a fun and exciting little shop.
