Hi all,

This grand old train engine from the early 1900s is part of the growing collection of vintage railway stock owned and operated by the Fillmore and Western Railway. This company offering historical rides between Fillmore and Santa Paula California, also has been used in many Hollywood movie productions. My family and I took the train to its' destination for the day, a Christmas Tree farm, where passengers cut down their own trees which were "shipped" back with us on a "flatcar" to our original Fillmore Depot starting point. This photo was taken at the end of our very special day, a terrific way to start off our Christmas holiday season.

Definately need to ask Santa for a tripod, as this one, hand-held with my Oly 2100uz, was more than a bit tricky and full of "luck". Curt

I'm sorry but the subject locomotive could hardly be described as being from the early 1900s. More around the mid-century period more than likely. After all it is a diesel not a wood or coal burning locomotive that you see in the early Western movies with smoke bellowing from the smoke stack.

Nice picture just the same though.

Curt,

Really heart-warming shot. And I'm glad that you are taking frequent(?) vacations with family ;) Oh, by the way, Ulyssis seems to have bought a Canon camera ;)

Hello Curt,

A fine composition in good light to go along with the story. Well done on all accounts. Thanks for sharing your special day.

Hi Jgvp1,

You are absolutely right, I'm not sure about the actual age of the engine/locomotive. The passenger car that we rode in was built in 1918, or so the information states. Thanks for the nice comment though. Curt

Hi Pondria,

Really great to hear from you!!! Thanks for the nice comment here. This was a fun day, and an absolute lucky "fluke" of a photo! LOL Definately interesting to hear about Ulysses. Seems like ages ago that we all were arguing about the reasons that it was normal that our 505vs wouldn't focus! LOL Hope you and your family have a great holiday season my friend. Thanks so much for stopping by. Curt

Hi Martin,

Thanks so much for the terrific and very much appreciated comments here! I was really happy with the outcome of this one too. Sometimes, despite the obstacles I get "lucky:. LOL Curt
Hi Curt:
I like this one. The perspective, the low light capured, and the
mood that gives a train station and such evocative train to the
scene.
with respects--
