Hi lowteg,

According to him, it was mailed on the 27th...had a hard time contacting him, he said he was buy cuz he was moving to another place...a bit frustrating but i'm patiently waiting...
Hey Gdog123, Did you recieve the metal case from that guy on ebay yet?
How long have you waited?

Also, my bid for a perfect case for the S230 would be the Canon
metal ixus case :)
Here is what it looks like:

Just thought I wold post a shot of my S230 setting inside the Metal Case I was lucky enough to be able to find for it! (at the low price of $40 on Ebay!) LOL Oh well, at least I got one...!

Sorry the photo is not the best...
Your nominations please for the perfect case for the s230. Mine is
on the way from B & H today. I passed on the canon leather case--no
padding. I am looking for something that compliments the size of
the camera, offers some impact protection and a pocket for an extra
CF card and battery.

Hi lowteg and Gdog,

I actually bought a case from the guy and already received it (I live in Austria so I guess its my distance advantage...)

I actually was a bit disappointed by the metal case. It's a bit wider than the s230/v3 but not enough to fit a spare battery or CF into the case together with the camera. - and the case itself is big enough to loose the comfort of the small camera. In addition it's cheaply built and looks way worse than on the picture in the ebay ad. I almost am tempted to believe its some kind of china made copy of an original canon case. Who knows.

All in all the only use I can think of is if I want to protect the camera from very rough surrounding (tramping, backpacking, ...)

at least it was cheap at €9,- + shipping.

Cheers,
alfalfa

Received my IXUS metal case today...

Can be viewed here: http://www.pbase.com/gdog123/ixus_metal_case

I am surprised at the color of my case, it looks more white than silver...also, there seems to be some stains of some sort near the front..check out pic #616

lowteg, did your case look like this too?

yea mine looked liked that too...

To get rid of it just use some metal cleaner or a cleaning agent...I think I used Ajax, scrub it a bit with some water/Ajax and it came out nice! :)

How do you like the case? like the size? Does it feel secure?

Thanks, I'm gonna try the Ajax tip!

I like the case, I imagined it to be smaller...it is pretty secure. I've noticed the camera strap gets in the way when placing the camera in the case...takes a while to get it nice and snug.

Are you going to do a mini xmas spraypaint project for the case? ;)

is the black velvety' hard lined velcro case for the v3.

Its not too bad at all.

I was going to spray pain it but I did such a nice job cleaning it that it was pointless to do so! Case looks great now.

I just recieved my Tamrac 5688...nice slim little case partially padded with a little pocket in fron for an extra battery or memory...I like it

I've been looking for a case that will not add much size/weight to the camera. I don't care about padding, just mainly to protect it from scratches and the such. Does that metal case add much size or thickness to the camera? For the last few weeks I've been using a little felt bag, but I'm looking for a more permenant solution, the most important aspect for me is size, must be small! Any suggestions as to which case is best for this?

Thanks,

The Tamrac case is very small...the camera fits very snuggly into the case and the padding is minimal...no extra bulk

Looks like I'll be deciding between the tamrac case and the metal case. I like the metal case because it compliments the look of the camera nicely. Anyone care to comment on how much bulk it adds to the camera?

Rob,

In this case I would highly suggest the Tamrac 5688. It's very slim and lightweight. The metal case is a bit heavier...it's also harder to fit in a pocket unless you are wearing loose fitting jeans.

Having the camera in the metal case is equivalent to carrying a glasses case but with the S230 inside...I still like the metal case for its protective aspect...

I just received my Tamrac 5688 today, and not to play devil's advocate, I didn't like it.

It looks cheap and offers little protection compared to that of Canon PSC-100. I do like the snug fit and the compactness WITHOUT the extra battery, however, with the extra battery, the case bulks up considerably.

That being said, the PSC-100 is a little bigger in size, but offers more protection. It also bulks up with an extra battery in the side pocket.

Cheers!

I like the Tamrac 5688 because it can clip on and off my belt easily...I also have the PSC-100 and an IXUS metal case too ;)

Deciding whether or not I should keep the IXUS case...

Here's my .02 altho this may have been mentioned already. Yesterday I was at a Brookstone Store and bought a Leather Case (holster type) for my wife's Startac cell-phone and discovered, to my pleasant surprise, that it fits the S230 very nicely. It's only $12. It's better looking and better fit than the Canon cases. Check it out before you buy the ugly & cheap looking Tamrack case!!!
Thanks,
