Hello folks,

My X100 has the sticky aperture problem which I tested using manual mode switching between f2.0-1/250-iso3200 and f16-1/4-iso3200 and noticed an overexposure of the f16. I will be sending the camera in to fuji customer service to fix it like they have many others.

I have noticed another problem where my camera will occasionally underexpose in an extreme way. I shot the 4 photos below in a row with no change in settings in between photos. I was using aperture priority mode with auto iso(although it stayed at 200iso) and f8.0. The light meter was set to multi. The ND filter was off. DR was set to 100%.

In the 4 photos the meter starts at 1/4000th of a second and eventually goes back to normalish and comes down to 1/80th of a second. This happens maybe once every 50 photos.

Has anyone seen this behavior? Is there something I am doing wrong that could cause this behavior? Thanks for any help.

Send it in to fujifilm. I had the same problem last time - without changing settings, the shutterspeed just kept falling everytime i half pressed 1/60 -> 1/30 -> 1/15 -> 1/8 and so on. I thought it was the light meter, but apparently it was the sticky aperture problem.

Interesting. I wonder how the sticky aperture affects how the meter decides the shutterspeed. I would love for it to be a side effect of sticky aperture since there is a known fix for it by replacing the lens.

When did you guys buy the X100? Is the sticky shutter problem affecting even newer batches of the camera or it is just an issue for older batches? Is this related to place of manufacturing?

Kinda worry cos I plan to buy one soon.

Mine was shipped August 23rd(2011) from Amazon. So very recently. This is likely still an issue for new camera orders. At least there is a known fix for it. From I have heard, Shipping to the US repair facility is paid by the customer. It's stupid that I will have to pay any money besides my original purchase to get a working product.

I talked to Steve P. at the Fuji repair center in New Jersey. He was friendly and helpful and told me what I needed to do when sending the camera in. He will likely by replacing my lens assembly. I added info about the underexposure problem in my note I put in the box.

If you have a problem call 1-800-800-FUJI and then press 1 and then 2 and you should get the same department. I will update in this thread once I have it back.

I got back the camera from the New Jersey repair facility about a month back. It worked perfectly then. However, recently the exact same sticky aperture problems started up again. I have called the special X100 repair department and they are sending out a prepaid label to send the camera back to them.

I asked them whether there was a new lens assembly(like we have heard rumored) that supposedly fixed this issue. The person I talked to was not Steve P, but he had heard of the new assembly and had seen it. And he thought it looked the same. So he was unsure if it was created to fix the sticky aperture.

He also said he hadn't heard of any units being returned after being fixed before today, but mine was the second he heard of today. So to him, the problem repeating after a lens assembly replacement was rare.
