Hi, I have the S602 and I have been trying to take picture in light that is very strong with actinic and UV properties. what I end up getting is a washed out very blue picture.. is there some settings I can use to capture the floressence of the subjects with out being washed out in blue?

oh for people who don't know actinic light has a wave length between 380 and 430 nm there is also some content of light below 380 nm when I am taking thease pics.

thanks

Steve

Steve,

You'll need some sort of filtration most likely. I'm not sure where the cut off is for a standard UV filter, but that is their main purpose. They filter out unwanted UV which gives a blue cast to an image. However, as this seems to be a quite strong source, a standard UV filter designed for daylight may not be strong enough.

Have you tried to do a custom white balance? You might try that, place a white card in the light source, and then set your white balance off that card. It may do the trick but it's possible the CCD is just not up to the task of dealing with all those shorter wavelenghts either.

You could also check out Kodak and see if they have any Wratten filter gels which block strong UV sources. It's possible they may have something designed for medical applications to take images under sterile fields which use Uv light as the sterilant.
