I can't believe the Magic Lantern exposure capture feature works. I never though the camera could be so fast. So it can be said is faster than light. Awesome.

Getting into rainy season in Paname, I will be looking forward for much more.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Sweet! Means I have to investigate it more also...
Did you use the "permanent" version or the one that boots from card each time?

The isn't a permanent version that I know of. It only boots off the card. There is a update to the camera firmware that turns on the ability to load from the card but that's just enabling a hidden canon feature.

Exctly, the beauty of it is that it doesn't tampers with your camera's firmware. Is just an add on, and you decide if you load it or not. Just hold the shutter half way upon turning on the camera, and it will not load, just plain Canon fw.

Hmm, you raised my interest even more :)
They have it for 60D also I guess, is it the same FW- file for several cameras?

great shot, and thanks for making me aware of ML, I really need to come here more often again..

...and yes, I did update the FW and tried ML now...

Everything works except some small flickering here and there in the menu's, Liveview etc.

I've got now all set up and when needed I'll try ML most definetly.

It flickers, all right? But is very stable and usable. I've had just a few locks once in a while, but very scarce. Is surely worth it.

Download the latest stable autoexec.bin from here https://bitbucket-assetroot.s3.amazonaws.com/hudson/magic-lantern/20110912/666/autoexec.bin

and update your SD card overwriting the old file. It has a couple of new features to be implemented in the next release, those are:
1. Press ISO+INFO to switch profiles

2. LCD timeout doesn't deactivate the sensor in exposure capture mode (lightning mode).

Thanks for the info, must download the new build and check it out.

BTW, do you "disable" the ML by formatting the card or some other way (shutter half- press)?

I was wondering about the warning on "not to insert prepared card without autoexec- file", have you sorted that out, which procedure exactly should be avoided?

The zip contains an INSTALL.pdf file which is pretty straightforward. If you format the card you got to make it bootable again, there are also the links to download a utility calles EOScard, which formats and makes it bootable. And you can disable the firmware temporarily by half pressing the shutter while turning on the camera.

Once you have the FW installed, you won't reformat the card each time you download your images. Just delete them selecting Delete all images form card menu item.

Yes, I've read the pdf in the zip and it's clear how things work.

The only thing that I did not quite understand was that what exactly is the scenario when the missing autoexec- file can fry the camera?

I did not make any changes to the card (bootable?), I just used the FW to put the boot flag on. After that just copied the files as instructed. So I was just concerned that if I accidently put another card in the camera which does not have the files, is it possible to fry the Cpu?

Oh no, not at all. There is no way to "fry" the camera with software. In fact, ML doesn't care about the firmware. It runs alongside.

And if you insert a newly formatted camera, it will just load the standard firmware with no goodies. No harm whatsoever.

Ok, I was a bit worried on the sentence in the manual:

- - - -

If you have a bootable SD card and have the BOOTDISK flag set in the camera (which the installer does), and you do not have an AUTOEXEC.BIN file on the card the camera WILL NOT BOOT! It will hang and not wake up until the battery is removed.
If you encounter a "locked up" camera, quickly remove the battery.
When in doubt, remove the battery and reboot.
- - - -

So I just wanted to make sure that I'm not misusing the FW somehow :)

Exactly. If you insert a Bootable SD, prepared with either EOScard or the installer, and you delete the autoexec.bin, it will not boot and hang. Remove the battery and format the card, or copy the autoexec.bin to it.

Now, if you just FORMAT it, it will remove the bootable state and it will run normally like nothing happened. Same happens when you insert a new card, it has no bootable state, so it won't try to find the autoexec.bin on it. To make it bootable again, run the EOScard util and copy ML files to the root dir of the card.

Hi Martin, I downloaded and installed ML on to a SD card but was unable to find a menu for it, so have now re-formatted the card. I have since read on the ML faq that using a third party battery or if you have sensor cleaning enabled it will not work? Also If I have another attempt and disable sensor cleaning, does it only work in live view?

Regards, Alan
