In actuality the Canon 250D and 500D might be what you were
referring to as "filters" in that they mechanically appear and
operate in a similar fashion, i.e. they screw on to the existing
camera lens thread. Many have another accessory thread also (for a
filter perhaps.)
However they are, by definition, lenses and not filters. There
really is no such thing as a "close-up filter." If it refracts and
changes the focal length it's a lens.
That said, in addition to being quality glass with a quality
coating, the Canon 'D' lenses are dual element lenses. This reduces
artifacts, fringe focus problems and the like. It also, of course,
increases the light path and the number of refractions.
You can see the results of a 52mm 500D in my PBase album. Almost
all were taken with the +2 diopter lens, however many were cropped.

someone posted a thread here a while back talking about a canon
macro lens? i really do like taking macro photos and would really
like a good quality lens. suggestions appreciated or if you can
