We get some wonderful skies and clouds in Colorado this time of year. Here is one from last year in color and B&W (orange filter effect). Each version is nice, but I like the B&W version better in this case, the sky and clouds have a greater depth, IMO. Shot with the SD14 and the 20 mm lens.

I remember someone on this forum saying, shortly after I started visiting here, that if you can't find anything interesting to shoot - look up. The sky you have capture here are a prime example of why that advise is excellent :)

Well done Larry.

Kind of appreciated that one, Larry.

It reminds of living there, albeit north of Longmont.

Funny how each place gets into your bloodstream, so you can remember, even how a time of day or a place feels.

Sometimes you even understand better than when you lived there.

Good to remember.

Clive

I love Foveon clouds :)
I've tried getting the same effect with my Nikon DSLR but I just can't.

I read someone saying that Foveon renders the clouds "prettier than reality", that might well but but I'm willing to live with that!

Thanks for the comments Dil42: No this is not a HDR shot. It is straight processed from SPP4 to Jpeg and further PP in Aperture for color and subsequent B&W conversion. The SD14 does an incredible job on the great skies we get in the fall in Colorado. Looking forward to more ops in the weeks to come.

You are right Clive: I went to college here and could not bring myself to return to California, so I have been here over 40 years ;O). and loving it. I have a son in Longmont which provides me an extra excuse to visit RMNP (as if I needed one), and stopping in on him going up or coming back.

I've noticed it too. I got very good results using a circular polarizer with my Canon 30D, but that same circular polarizer on my SD15 seems to make far less of a difference. It slumbers in a drawer now; I no longer need it.

Both shots are nice. I prefer the color one. My personal taste would be to have a little more contrast in the B&W shot. But that's just me :^)

My B&W technique is a throw back to my Ansel Adams zone system days when gray was king ;O). I will revisit my processes and look at increasing the contrast; and perhaps add more black and white keys to my images.
