Gidday All,

The Cat! thread is now open for business.

Every Sunday since Anton AK first started the thread on 23 Sept 2007, here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1022&message=24936918
and so faithfully continued by John King from 10 August 2008

Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and story memories of your feline companions with us

Come one, come all; all cats and cameras welcome. NO criticism allowed, only nice comments

Add your favourite cat shot to the collection. No time limits, taken any time, any place, any camera.

We have had cool cats and hot cats; Canonical cats and Olympian cats; African cats and American cats.

There have been Meerkats and mere cats; moggies and high class cats; almost cats and some that I suspect were not really cats at all (specially the one with horns and the other one with scales ... ; the one that lived in the water, and that ring-tailed cat that was lost ... ); inside cats and OUTSIDE cats; BIG cats and little cats. And
even a cat with a big flat tail and buck teeth ...

An image courtesy of JolieO in memory of milsooper who's probably hard at work in a different part of the country right now...

Anyone caught peeping at the EXIF data for camera makes and models will be given a flogging with a cat-of-nine-tails ...

AND BTW folks:

The Sunday Cat! will (mostly) start when it is still Saturday in the rest of the world, Australia being GMT +10 hours ... So it is still only around noon "last" Saturday in Hawaii (just for example ... ).

And of course it is OK to give constructive criticism if the poster specifically asks for it; otherwise the above-mentioned rule applies ... And it is OK to mention what camera and lens you took the shot with ... if you like.

Love the Cat! thread ... Like our beloved companion animals, an opportunity for a romp in the sun, and also to remember those who have so affectionately touched us.

LAST WEEK'S THREAD LINK:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/message.asp?forum=1022&parent=39272210&thread=39272210

The weekly news ...

A VERY heartfelt message of compassion and sympathy for all our American friends on this very sad anniversary of the September 11 attacks across their country.

The Mouse still has a sick computer this week, so you will all have to put up with my dilatory presence filling in for Warren.

A special thanks to all lately who don't even have cats of their own but have found "street cat" to share with us your efforts are appreciated

Hopefully in the thread this week we'll see more of Dave and Chyna, Duma, Simon, Lacy. Mr. Mushy, Dexter, The Ralph, Fur-B, Charlie, Linus, Mr. DeMille, Buffy, His royal laziness - Mišo(Meesho) the first. Spanky, Conan, Jamby, Callie, Rupert, Wikka, Ziggi, Nanuk, Cinders, Jesse, Eddie, Pokey, Kat (i'm still suspicious!), Anna, Tuna, Larson, Nora, boots, Meggsy and Bindi, Charlotte, Moonstone, Luna and Merlin, Max, Smudgy and Sheba, Nemo, Jennifer, HRH Terri, Gato, Nora, Sweetie, Jadey, Rikki and Pokey, Bahari, Lizzie and Rosa, Bindie, of Gigi, Gerula, Chloe, Mia, Daisi, Parvon and Fritzi, Dusti (not to be confuse with my Dusty!), Marco and RJ, MJ, Buster, Kit Kat, Snix and Snickers, Abby, Nemo, Colby, Jessie, Cleo, Charlotte, of the Skye Kitty, Sheba, the 3 P's: Poeka, Pip & Pebbles, Mindy, Molly, Annie, Ligil and Eddy, the new farm kittens and all the strays out there too! ohh and how could we forget our dear wee Pixel!

Nice shot of Boo.
At least he had those 3 years mate. Much better than the alternative ...
But still sad.

It took nearly 5 years before we could contemplate getting another cat (cats ... ) after our dear old Twinky died in the 1990s. She had been with us for over 18 years.

Snickers has been inside for almost two weeks. She stares out the front window a lot, and so wants to join the other feral cats that come and go. She's so tame, we're hoping that she'll be adopted and don't want to lose her, so we tried a leash.

Here are some pictures from her third venture out back:

When we neared a small, nearly dead tree in our neighbor's yard, she stopped and suddenly began scaling it. Once she had reached a height of about 8-9 feet, a tiny limb broke and gravity took over. Fortunately, Snickers glanced against two other branches on the way down before hitting the soft, moist grass.

She sat by the dead branch for a few moments and then ambled along.

Snickers is very much herself and doesn't seem to have suffered any permanent effects.

Mia is curious:

Fritzi on the second floor:

I discovered that Julia (Is not my cat but is living in my yard with Caesar and they are living on my cat-food) give birth to 5 kitten.

I cannot touch them (they are wild) but I put the E-PL2 on a tripod, look on the EVF through a binocular an trigger the camera with the remote control.

They where in the garage; not enough light. I put the 800 ISO and the maximum aperture on the m40-150 lens. The DOF is very bad, but the kittens are wonderful.
Here are some of the results:

and the happy mother:

I love this series! The cats are so cute and curious. You'll have a lot of opportunities to contribute pictures of them as they grow up (and hope that you will!).

We take care of feral cats and have witnessed several litters, trying always to Trap, Neuter and Release them so that the colony will stabilize. We set food out too (sometimes it seems that we're feeding everyone's cat!) and have prepared sealed and insulated cardboard "condos" for them on the patio. Several of the kittens, if handled early enough, have been adopted.

Winter Cat

Great shots. They look like a pair of smoochy cats. I love the feet in the air in the first shot. I was working on my car yesterday and found one of my cats, Bindi, relaxing like that on the driver's seat. Unfortunately I couldn't get a photo because the windows were too reflective.

Hi everyone. It is great to see your photos each week. I missed last week and could only manage one of Cleo this week. It is not the best - seems a little washed out to me - but at least she didn't turn her head away as she usually does.

Looks as if Snickers knows which side of her bread is buttered ... ;) :D.

It is rare to meet a cat that doesn't ...

Glad she is settling in so well.

Fritzi is superb, and knows it.

You were truly quite cunning and inventive in getting your shots of the kittens.

They are just wonderful. Pretty little creatures. Love the ginger one miaowing at the camera. Well caught mate.

And doesn't their mother just look so smug at her cleverness.

Gee, what a nice thread so far.

Shame that this creep keeps posting drivel into previous week's thread:
http://www.dpreview.com/members/7956059143

It would appear that the only way to get this deranged and disturbed person to stop wrecking the cat thread is for everyone on the thread to complain about this behaviour, if you are of a mind to, of course.

One can use the COMPLAIN button, or for a more detailed complaint, use the FEEDBACK option here:
http://www.dpreview.com/misc/feedback.asp

If this 'person' is not stopped, then the Cat thread will end.
A "triumph" for a sick, evil and small-minded 'person'.

That's a terrible case of dandruff your cat has got ... ;)

Or is it snow?

Nice shot mate. The snow looks wonderful on the black coat.

John, easiest way to deal with it may be to bump this week's thread to the top again. I do find resurrection of old threads annoying but the comments don't seem offensive, so no rules broken that I can see. He seems to have a genuine liking for cats. Perhaps he was browsing previous week's threads and did not anticipate all the consequences of replying to them. (I am being kind here).
