your GXR body of course

Hello everyone

I am looking for a screen protector for the GXR. I had bought a lexerd one before which is the kind with a small film but it keeps coming off . I prefer the kind that have some kind of frame around them

I know Giotto makes some of them but I also saw a Flipbac Angle viewfinder and LCD screen on amazon and was wondering if anyone had experience with this flipbac that offers both protection and angled LCD

I would also like to ask each one of you ; WHICH screen protector do you have on your GXR ?

I would appreciate your feedback

Thank you

H

I am happy with the Giotto glass screen.

I don't use screen protecters. I've never found they did anything much more than make the screen somewhat less crisp to view.

Japan Exposures ( http://www.japanexposures.com/ ) sells both a Hakuba leather case and a more traditional, hand-made leather half case for the GXR. The latter provides a removable back cover to protect the LCD. Both look good quality. I ordered my Rayqual mount adapter from them and they provided excellent service, fast shipping.

looks nothing like that so far. It's crystal clear.
Same here, not even a scratch on mine. Unlike most other cameras, the Ricoh LCDs are slightly recessed so you can't even scratch them laying the camera on its back on a flat surface.

I'm wondering if this might be a result of wearing a camera on a neck strap where the LCD constantly scratches against shirts or jackets and bangs against buttons and zippers etc. Neck straps were good for SLRs with plain backs but with a large LCD screen on the back now they aren't so good I think and you'll need a screen protector.

I use the ACMAXX LCD protector as well. Here is a link to the GXR page on their site:
I actually took mine off due to the almost mirror-like reflections which made the LCD unusable in bright sunlight etc. If you use an EVF instead then that wouldn't be an issue though.

Why is that? Poor quality coatings on the LCD cover glass?
It seems the coatings are not very resistant and tend to come off after a while, it starts small and then gets worse.
I've cleaned mine with the special solution I use for cleaning my displays ... looks nothing like that so far. It's crystal clear.
I had my GXR since December 2009 and the GRD III since July 2009 so they have seen a lot of use. Ricoh offered to fix the screens but I wanted to see how the wear develops after long term use and provide feedback for them.

Even if you don't have this problem now, I would recommend you get a screen protector to avoid these problems. Once the coating is off you have a mirror in bright light and can barely see the screen.

Hello again

I want to sincerely thank all of you who took the time to answer to answer my question. sometimes with the few whiners that sometime bring the level of the forum down , one might be almost ( but not quite) on the point of forgetting that most posters here are really nice people with precious input

I have decided to buy a second GXR body and based on your feedback I have ordered a ACMax screen protector for it

Thank you again
