Lets face it. The lack of more that 128MB memory sticks must continue to be a GREAT embarassement to Sony.
This has been the one down note on an outstanding series of cameras from Sony. They develop a unique proprietary memory product, with a schedule for memory growth and it falls way, way behind just about every other offering.
As to whether users need a larger memory stick. Well, users should have a choice.
I share the "all the eggs in one basket" thoughts. However, this is balanced by recognizing that the more you change memory sticks the more chance to lose or drop a stick. I suspect my chance of causing the problem is greater than that of a memory stick failing.
It would seem that more frequent removals and insertations would cause more wear and tear on the insertion mechanism for the sticks.
Also there are times when having to change memory means that pictures will be missed. This unfortunately has already happened to me at performance venues. So the pictures were lost without a stick failure.
Finally, for those of us who also on occassion take movies with our cameras the larger sticks would be a real advantage.
Hopefully, we will learn shortly where Sony stands - be it either failure of success. Perhaps we will finally see a larger stick from Sony, or at least hear a comment on their new memory stick schedule.
Two or more memory stick slots in new products ... probably would be a bad sign.
The best.

Imager.
Well, users of compact flash-based cameras will soon have a 3Gb
option. Meanwhile...well, do I even need to say it?
Between the Memory Stick size issue, my ongoing DSC-P1 battery
issues, and the bugs with the 707 and 717 at introduction, I've
about had it.
The Canon G3 looks like a nice little camera.
