E-PL1 still a good buy?

tedophy. well done! for adding to my ridicule too. i also to have met some people! the type who sarcastic, cynical, unfriendly and rude.
So we have met before?
But when you add a degree of arrogance that's tripping over themselves just to show me how much of a horrible person they can be.
Thank you for noticing-shows you care!
That really must make you feel and everyone you know ever so proud.
Pride?

Well, I prefer to call it self-esteem!
I only tried to answer op question about epl1 ( is it still worth buying ? ) as i just bought one. But also i know i can't add much to any debate on here. As i only have had cameras for about a year. And i know i have still got a lot to learn. But in this thread i could have a opinion, because i bought one.!! I don't think your input was much help either you gave photo's showing 3fps? asking who needs more ?.maybe some looking at your golf swing. I bet you own camera's that can shoot more than 3fps ? If so in a simple answer to your question YOU DO!! & YOUR LOWLIGHT SHOT'S were hardly lowlight when there's 5 lights shinning bright in the ground. And while am here 415c you harp on about words grammar punctuations but seem to missing letters in your name?
And just like i might:) have difficulty writing and expressing myself :) on laptop I think you two have difficulty with manner's. You don't need to be educated to have them ! & remember what people come on here for to discuss the good & the flaws in camera's not human's
Look, your posts are impossible to read without punctuation. Give it another try.

  1. 3 refers to the lens wobble that can occur at those shutter speeds.
The EPL2 has the MKII lens to prevent the wobble.

I have both the EPL1 and the XZ-1 (for my wife).

If you are pixel peeping or printing large you can see the difference. If you are taking photos/snapshots, the XZ-1 still delivers excellent results in a much smaller package.

I agree with something someone else mentioned as well... if you just want to take pictures, an XZ-1 would probably be better. If you want to learn or already know more about photography, the EPL1 would be better.

If you need a smaller size, get an XZ-1. The PEN even with a pancake still needs a case/purse/bag to carry it in. With either you can still get a belt pack and be "fairly small". Though even the XZ-1 is a bit too large to slide into even larger pockets.

We shoot RAW in both cameras (and in my e520 DSLR as well) because you have more options.

It's definitely a great time for photography. Lots of great choices that all provide better IQ than anyone but the pros had 10 years ago!

Well and good of you. Did you want anyone to be able to make sense of what you originally wrote? If so, please make the effort to frame it in a more readable format.

I'll let you make friends with Tedolph, but who's this 415c that you speak of? We may share some similarities, but I can assure you 415c is not in my immediate family.

This was much easier to read than your first post. Thank you for making the effort. That is ALL I was asking of you. If you think it's too much to ask, I believe we're at an impasse. Since you've shown some concern for manners, I'll add that I consider it quite rude to ignore even the most basic standards of punctuation and grammar, as illustrated by your execrable first post.

If you aren't fluent in English, that's another matter entirely, but now that you've shown you have some idea how to write in a less painful fashion, I hope you'll continue to do so.

I agree with much of what you said, but there is one area where the XZ-1 appears to fall apart compared to every m43 body, and that's at ISO 400 or greater. Based on the test shots I've seen, the XZ-1 just doesn't cut it, but maybe your real world experience is different. Like you said, it really depends on what tool the photographer needs for the task at hand, and we have a great many tools to choose from.

Yes, true enough. But with the f1.8 lens, you can shoot a lot more than you can on all other P&S cameras without pushing the ISO (2 stops better, so iso 400 is like 1600 on another camera), and unless you get a good pancake lens, the same is true for the PENs (and then you lose zoom capability).

I do love both cameras. The XZ-1 even supports the photo-geek in me as the ring around the lens for controlling aperture or shutter speed (based on mode) feels a lot like my DSLR. It is handy and satisifying.

Now I'm just looking for lenses to throw on the PEN. I'm hoping soon they come out with a m4/3 version of the 14-54 [email protected]. It'd be bigger than the kit lens (unless they can really collapse it) but imagine the quality and still should be a lot smaller than the 4/3 version of the lens.

No doubt the EPL1 can produce much better images and the XZ-1 is still quite expensive. They are for different audiences and either will deliver exceptional image quality in a compact package.

I don't doubt any of that.

Samsung got that right with their mount specification. Too bad m43 missed that opportunity, but at least "snap focus" looks promising on the Oly 12/2.

You aren't alone in wanting a fast-ish normal telephoto, but with the arrival of the 45/1.8, the need for that telephoto isn't as great. I think one will eventually be made, but I'm not waiting. A 9-18, 20, and 45/1.8 will be just fine for me.

With a budget under $450, is the E-PL1 the best choice?
An even cheaper option is to get an EPL1 refurb for only $309:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/742285-REF/Olympus_262856_PEN_E_PL1_Digital_Camera.html

Refurbs receive more testing than factory floor models that cost more.
Another source is through Cameta. They list a "factory demo" E-PL1 w/kit lens for $299.95 or the E-PL1 body for $229.95 (including a 1 year warranty through them).

http://www.cameta.com/index.cfm?fa=display.search&page=1&keywords=Olympus%20E%2DPL1

I opted for the E-PL2 factory demo which I got for $460 which I think is still available. (It has the 14-42 II kit lens among other differences.)

There are deals popping up around the 'net as Olympus appears to be clearing out the stock of superseded models.

There is a "deals" section on the µ4/3rs forums.
http://www.mu-43.com/f89/

There are also some occasional deals on the 40-150 telephoto as there is supposedly a 40-150 II nearing release.

I have a number of Legacy Olympus lenses and they are fun to play with also. They work in either manual or aperture priority exposure modes (stepped down), but are, obviously, manual focus.

The only real drawback is the EVF's price, though the new one is less expensive. The original one is quite nice, but I have not had an opportunity to use the new one.

Cheers

P.S. I had no problems dealing with Cameta.

I wonder if the ring around the mount would have changed the distance to the sensor, making the lenses larger?

The snap-focus on the 12mm is super-sweet. The guy I bought the EPL1 from had one and let me try it out. You just move the ring and then it has a really nice, mechanical manual focus feel. Not the focus by wire that leaves you guessing how much you moved it.

Yes, I suppose the adjustment from 4/3 to m4/3 is using more prime lenses rather than the zooms. Right now I just have the kit lens, so we will see where I end up.
