This one (nr.1) is not created from several shots, it's just there in the centre of Rotterdam, just as you're seeing it here. The Cube houses also exist in several colours. This one I gave a more graphical expression according my own impression of it plus three other shots.

Fun! If there's such a thing as "extreme whimsy" this must be it. (I take it Holland isn't a seismically active area.)

Cheers,

Rick

Truly outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing, Lou.......I can see myself walking that neighborhood listening to The Verve in my android phone...lol.....

I don't know if you still can, but some time ago I visited one. The top room is brilliant! Light falls in from above, making the room very light and pleasant.

The guy who volunteered as our guide remarked that there was hardly any furniture which fitted the house without modification.

Lou these are great.

I do think however that this can't be a place that partakes in a few drinks. Imagine trying to find your house or door after a few "spots". I would also not fall down near these houses under the influence as I would think I was Alice in wonderland. Not for the easily disorientated.

Brad from the outside they look quite hostile to live in but from the inside it looks all beside quite normal a bit artistic. Oke it's a bit of a simplistic explanation but through Google there is a lot to find about these houses from Piet Blom.

Last sunday we drove in a very old museum trolley and got ourselfs a beautiful tour through Rotterdam over the existing rail inbetween the regular line/scheduled service. Wonderfull trip, the only drawback where the windows as they're not as clean as it should be, especially for taking photographs. Now I got a lot of shots with dirt and some with reflections. But what the heck it was a very nice expirience as that trolley has a very nice interior. It got lots of flowers, cristal chandeliers for every window etc. etc. People were very surprised to see us and the onboard catering was excelent. It was quite a Royal trip.

Thanks for your visit Brad. BTW. there seems one house which can be free to visit. So maybe you see me back one day with some interior shots.

that is the strangest housing I have ever seen! I really like the bold colors and your composition. Also it makes me wonder what the floor plan inside looks like.

Thanks for the visit Rick and they are less whimsy inside tha house than they look outside and you right about that Holland isn't a very seismical area :)

I had seen pictures of these before, but I have never seen them myself.

Of your pictures, I like the third one best, because of its concentration on the subject itself, without any distractions.

You could say the other buildings serve as contrast, but I like the simplicity of just the Cubes. We all know how other buildings look like, is a bit the reasoning behind my view that no contrast is needed.
Hope that makes sense.

I loved visiting the Sonneveld house in Rotterdam (from 1933 and still it oozes a cute modernism):

Actually the Rietveld house is not in Amsterdam, but in Utrecht. It's funny to see that the adjacent "old" houses were built after the modernistic Rietveld house.

oh dam
Im misinformed

I was staying with an artist lady in Hellevoetsluis who had an identical chair as can be found in that house, I was sure she said Amsterdam

oh well... apologies

At one point, my wife Els Vanassche (google her) had a number of her paintings on show in Hellevoetsluis in the gallery of an artist couple. Can't remember the name -- maybe because none were sold... ;-)
How many artist ladies live in such a relatively small town?
