I would like to hear from anyone who had an EP-2 and now has an EP-3. How do the out of camera jpegs compare? I was hoping to buy an EP-3 but it seems from what I've read here most people are post processing for best results. I've never had to do anything with my EP-2 jpegs they've always been beautiful. If the EP-3 jpegs out of camera are not as good as the EP-2, why not? What is the difference?

EP3 jpg is every bit as good, but the handling and performance are worlds better now. Slap on a new 12/2 or 45/1.8 and the IQ got even better.

These are very nice. No post processing?

Have not done any real direct comparison - also I shot primarily RAW for most of the time I had the EP2 once Lightroom was updated (shooting JPEGs now with the EP3 while waiting) but the results I have seen so far from the EP3 are very good. I could probably get away with very little - if any - post processing.

The exception would probably be when I need to use the higher ISOs. The results out of the camera (noise set to LOW) are very good up to 1600 and still pretty good up to 3200. Though above 1600 most people would probably start doing some noise removal in PP - but to tell you the truth, noise never really bothered me much.

As far as color, contrast, etc - I have been very happy with the OOC JPEGs. And if you liked the EP2 results, I can't see why you would be disappointed with the new camera.

Okay thank you all for your input. I think I'm gonna go for it!

I have an e-p2 and while the e-p3 is tempting for a handful of reasons, the simple fact is that the use of the old sensor is inexcusable considering the price they ask for it.

sure, i'd like a faster camera, but what bothers me most about the e-p2 is noise above iso 800 and that doesn't seem a whole lot better on e-p3.

frankly, i'm a little bewildered bythe number of upgraders but it proves Olympus know damn well what they can get away with.

They are jpeg - if I recall there might be minmal, but not sure.

I would go back to the thread (link above) and ask - the thread is not old.

Good choice IMO. I took the leap - and I just love this camera! I'm still going through the learning curve. I do jpeg - and very little pp - and I'm happy with it. I haven't had the time until this weekend to do some serious shooting, but what I've gotten so far pleases me. Actually it never occurred to me before the E-P3 that I would really enjoy a touch screen - now I'm getting addicted.

Enjoy! Let us know how you like it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Also you might want to do a search here to see more images. There are a lot of great photos around here done with the E-P3.
