The theme of Challenge 166 is "Getting Even"

I remembered back when I was just lurking on the forum a challenge thought up by Shirley (Haden) on odd numbers so I've unashamedly stolen her idea and tweaked it. So now, surprise surprise, the challenge is to use the even numbers

(2,4,6,8, etc). This could be, for example, as an image showing an even number of objects (eg 10 green bottles), something which shows the numbers themselves (eg Route 66), an interpretation of an expression which involves an even number (eg forty winks ) or anything else that fits the bill.

The competition runs from now 1 September until 2100 GMT on Monday, 12 September. At that time the galleries will be closed and the voting will commence with a new thread. The winner in the competition gallery will host the next challenge.

Newcomers are totally welcome and encouraged to join the fun - Just post here if you need assistance to get images into the gallery or if you are not certain what's going on. We all started off clueless and make the same mistakes.

To post a photo in any of the galleries; just select the gallery of choice from below: Competition or Exhibition or Originals. On the top of the page you will see "edit this gallery", click on that and it will ask for a password. Enter "kickass" (don't ask, just keep it lower case) and you should be able to make it from there. If you still need assistance, ask and you shall be answered. Sometimes the answer is even the right one!

Add your name after the title (makes voting easier), and make the image 800 pixels or less on the long edge, no larger than 200kB. Pbase lets us run these challenges free on their website, so please respect this by keeping your file size reasonable. Ensure the EXIF data is intact for the competition, with the date it was taken.

And, most importantly, Have fun!

That has so many meanings. This should be interesting :-)

Congrats again on the wonderful win - good choice for a theme!

Yes 'even' does have a lot of possibilities, my head is spinning already! I'll see if I can find some suitable shots for exhibition. I'm staying in the A/C today.

Congrats again on your win! Well deserved.

Do we have an account that requires payment?

kindly given us this space on their website. That's why we have the restrictions on photo size, so as to not use up too much space. I was just heading there to put my photo in. I'll reply and let you know what happens

I think we do have a problem...

I was going to write them, but I think we'll leave that to Brent, as he has been here the longest...even longer than me! lol

It appears we went over 1000MB (it is at 1015Mb) and they would like a payment. I don't know if it was an accidental billing or they have changed their minds about letting us use for free?

I think I'll make my subject line "Brent HELP" instead of I think we do have a problem LOL

that's what it's going to be. I mean...how many years did it take to get to 1000?

I've been trying to get my pbase down below the amount i pay on it now. I'd like it to be at 23.00. I think it's 40 something. Oh well, we'll see what Brent finds out, or if he designates someone he would like to write to them that would be fine too.

Thanks for your fine entries to the exhibition but they are quite a bit over our size limit (200Kb) so could you please downsize them a bit?

Of course, this probably won't help us with the other problem that Dennis and Shirley have noticed and which hopefully Brent may have a solution for, but it will maybe allow for a few more upolads until things get sorted out

Thanks
Barry

Thanks for the heads up. Note: the 800 sizing does not guarantee a 200k image - I had to knock mine down to 750 to fit. Anyway, I'm in the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam and the resized image is being stubborn about uploading, so maybe later.

In photoshop, when I reduce the size down to 800x600 I click "save as" and then a box pops up asking what quality I want, anywhere from poor to best. Usually I save at 10 on the scale and that does the trick (it says right on there how big the file is when saved between 3-12), sometimes I have to take it down to 7 (which in medium) It can go a bit above 200 so if it is 214kb on 10 and when you switch to 9 it goes down to 124 you can keep it at 10. If you use another software I can't help you. Maybe someone else would know.

By the way....I loved your entries in the last theme, looking forward to what you enter this go round. :o) this challege stuff gets addicting!

is still a problem. hmmmm I wonder what is going on. I hope this doesn't mean we won't get to use Pbase without paying. It's not that expensive, but I suppose over an 8 year period of time they're out $200.00.

I had trouble uploading a picture this morning as well. I went to our profile page and it said:
1. Our account is in good standing (12 credits/ months left)
2. We are using 3gig of 4gig allocated

They have changed the profile page around - let me see if I can figure out how to read messages and where PBase sends their messages to. I will ask and see if it is a glitch or what.

Stay tuned,
brent

it sure is strange. I am leaning toward the glitch thing. I believe they would have warned us ahead of time if they were going to start charging. On my private account they start letting me know it is getting close to payment time well in advance.

Thanks for handling this for us all. I think a lot of us would go nuts without the challenges!
