HX100V - LCD issues - still oversaturated and very red skin posterization

How about starting a new thread where serial numbers of cams facing this saturation problem are listed? Just a suggestion. Not sure if it would help in any way. Maybe the veterans out here have some feedback. I did read someones reply that Sony is not known to be very forthcoming but I'm wondering if it's worth a try. In the mean time I don't see a really major issue with this, but it would be nice if something can be done about it.

its done before as i said ( sending a collective complain ) to make Sony aware of something.

if you read the Sony DSLR forum you will notice same findings if it comes to FW upgrades........sometimes they isssue one but not to often.

I think its not in Sony's philosophy to do so.....:-(

in other words issues are often fixed in new releases and sometimes it takes a few successors to have something changed.

when a new camera is released by Sony i always wonder what will be left out compared to a previous model or whats added in favor of that.

I haven't seen anybody reference this before but it is at least interesting that SONY acknowledges some degree of LCD color representation issues on the HX100V.

See paragraph #2 in the following link ....... "slightly accentuated"
awareness is nice but not the answer .... unless you do something about it.

from what i read from most users, i would not quantify it as slightly accentuated

but more like they are in the know and covering it to prevent law suits.

whats the definition of slightly accentuated this can be used in scala of ways.

But if you aren't primarily taking wildlife shots then this problem will really bother you... it's not just a little 'off'.

About 50% of my shots are 'people shots'. 50% of those are indoors. So around 25% of my shots are quite difficult to judge whether they have properly turned out or not. If you are at some kind of family function or work event and people are posing for group shots, etc. it becomes an issue.

I don't 'chimp' when I am snapping away outdoors. The issue hardly presents itself when shooting outside. It's just the other shots that get a little frustrating.

Hopefully something can be done. If Sony doesn't want to publicly admit the problem then maybe we can all get our cameras replaced with ones that don't have the problem...its the least they can do.

you guys should compile a list with serial number/ purchase date/ country and send this as a collective complain to Sony, i dont think there is another way to get anything done.

Hopefully Sony will do something about it.

Completely agree with you. Looks like the Canadian batch has this issue

I bought one couple of days ago and the LCD is unusable for macro shots of anything red, tried to do macro of a red flower and all i could see was a red blob but shot it anyway and the picture was good on my PC. Anything reddish(brown, pink...) shows up as red.

I still have 10+ days for me to return this camera, maybe will try couple more to see if this is a problem in the batch or one off issue

People who are putting down this issue and suggesting using the viewfinder, do you also suggest to review using the viewfinder ? and for me the viewfinder is not working great in this case. What is the use if you are shooting blind :) . I am sorry i paid 450+ and expect this to work.

Here are the details in case anybody is collecting

I remember shooting with my 707. The reds were awful on the LCD.

I suppose you're right. I shoot in RAW so I never worry about white balance and stuff like that while I'm shooting. I can see how viewfinder accuracy becomes much more important when you're shooting jpegs. I should have thought this through a bit more before I made my comments. You make a valid point.

Sam, I haven't shot with a Sony camera for years, but I spend a lot of time here. I don't ever recall Sony doing a fix on anything except for the 717 sensor debacle. And seriously, you should have a viewfinder that reflects what the camera is actually looking at. It's not that much to ask for. I hope you guys get this figured out.

Regards
Rich

The problem is the viewfinder is also not reflecting what the camera is actually looking for :( in my case. It shows the same reddish saturation that i see in the lcd

Anyway i exchanged for a new one and although it has a similar reddish saturation the details are good i.e i can atleast make out the details when composing the shot, going to try the new camera for a week, will keep it if it does not bother me.

Meanwhile posted a feedback to sony, did not hear back from them although the ack mail said that a sony expert would get back in 6 hours !!!

Posted a review on sony store with 3 stars for the LCD oversaturation issue and dont see my review there.

Actually it sounds terrible.

Trendy rhetoric should never replace objectivity, especially when discussing technical issues.

There is post about this issue in sony forum. Just now I too reflected my views and asked for firmware update to fix this red saturation issue. you can also write your comments in the forum so that sony may initiate some action to fix this.

Sony HX100V

I just got back from BestBuy (Sacramento) with my new (unopened box) HX9 and hope this LCD issue is not a problem on this camera. Having accurate colors on the LCD is absolutely necessary and expected. I have the H20 Sony camera and it's LCD colors are spot on accurate..why would we get less with this highly touted model?

Serial no. SO1-56437*-G

Anyone with this screen issue have a serial no. in this ballpark?

Hi all ... I started this thread and have been in contact with Sony re this issue for months now (my 2nd camera from them has the same "indoor" red and over saturated LCD issue) but the focus and exposure are both fine - anyway yesterday at last I heard back from Sony and .....

..... sorry NO update at this point - however they did see what we're going on about re the red LCD issue ... hmmmm dont they care that their "flagship zoom" obviously has some production issues - seeing that their have been reports of good and bad LCD's out there? The UK seem to have received an earlier batch than us in N America and most reports from there seem to be A OK

anyway .....will be interesting to see if the DP review mentions anything re the LCD esp when shooting indoors... maybe that will get Sony to do something - the competition heats up as Canon are due to release their 12mp 35 x zoom... must say I'm not too impressed with the test shots on DP review of the HX100V - I have taken and seen way better and sharper images from this camera on the forum - and thats what made me buy one in the first place .... on the whole love the camera and am holding thumbs for a firmware update ... but am not banking on it - thanks for all the support everyone

they must have been aware of it a longtime, eventualy the followup will have it fixed ( Sony has a history if it comes to FW fixes ) most longtime users know that.

also its still not clear if its a certain batch that is affected.
