I initially bought the little camera for video, but it's so fun and lightweight that I used it quite a bit for pictures too. Mind you I also had my DSLR along for the trip. But their are times and places where a DSLR is not always practical or allowed. For example, the inside of churches and museums are usually not very DSLR friendly - I mean if your allowed to bring in a DSLR in the first place, you can forget about using a tripod. So here you are trying to take pictures hand held at iso 3200 and 1/5s... On the other hand the HX9V's steadying technology makes it easy to take decent snaps without much fuss.

Here are a few samples:
Cinque Terres - grey day taken in HDR mode

Rome - Quick panorama mode

Rome basilica

Rome outdoor market

Rome vegetation

Cinque Terres fishing boats

Random yellow flower

Thanks for looking.

Hey, enjoyable pictures ! That vegetation scene looks very nice to me and not only because there is a pretty girl in it :)

Lovely colours and detail my type of shots, how did you know that :D

First, second and particularly the third are excellent shots.
Great remembering of that trip.

Thanks all for the kind comments.

This thread was just to assure those who have heard negative things about the image quality of this camera that it can take good pictures and usually does. It has multiple talents, it's easy to use and hard to mess up a shot and comes in a very portable package. Very practical when traveling.

Here's another one from Rome in HDR mode:

very very nice pictures. As I'm not a pixel peeper, these pictures are beautiful to my eye.

How about some indoor low light pictures of moving objects, with and without flash....

You're right.
The quality of these shots is spectacularly good.
It's probably going to be my spare tube.
