Is it possible to find these features in a single camera?

Last week I gave good bye to my old and trust Canon 300D after selling it to a friend. But now I´m in a difficult situation. I´m planning to buy a Canon 7D but only in January 2012 during my vacation trip to US (I live in Brazil and here this camera costs more than 2x the price of it in US). But I don´t want to have no camera at all until there but it would be nonsense to sepent more than $500 in a camera right now. Is there any advanced compact camera around this price that has features like:
  • Full HD video recording (1080p);
  • Vari-angle LCD;
  • Long zoom;
  • Fairly decent image quality.
I need the full HD recording for a project that evolves interviews and photos.

Any help would be appreciated.

P&S's and bridge cameras have small sensors so noise above ISO 400 or so is always a problem. Any of the bridge cameras from the major brands should meet your needs. So should the better compacts like the Canon G12 or Nikon P7000. The micro 4/3 cameras handle noise better because their sensors are bigger than P&S's or bridge cameras. I like the Olympus micro 4/3 cameras better than the Panasonics because they tend to handle noise better and have in-camera stabilization. However these micro 4/3 cameras may be a little out of your price range.

My recommendation is a Canon G12 or Nikon P7000 because once you get your DSLR it will be nice to have a compact for those times you don't want to shlep a DSLR.

The 7d doesn't have a vary-angle lcd. The 60d and 600d do though. They have the same sensor and video functions of the 7d but are cheaper. There are differences of course, like still shooting rate of 7fps instead of 3fps, and weather sealing. But you wouldn't get that in a compact anyway. Aren't there ways of buying from a us store on ebay or something and getting it shipped?

The EX1/TL500 fits your bill well except it's 720P vs. 1080P (a minor issue for some, maybe not for you). It has a full swivel AMOLED screen, above average image quality for a compact - on par with the S95, P7000, LX5, G12 etc.

It doesn't get much press but you can get them for about $300 or so, including B&H. The fit and finish is also excellent. Zoom is good, not as long as a superzoom but not bad, about 440mm equivalent on 35mm.

The EX1/TL500 zoom range in 35mm equivalent is 24mm to 72mm, not 440mm.

Apparently Sony makes an EX1 camcorder and that has the 400+mm equivalent. Annoying when using Google! :/

And the EX1 doesn't do 720p either, it's limited to VGA 640x480.

Consider the FZxx model instead - i think has better high ISO the the FZ100 and older models have RAW which can help with noise reduction.
