I'm still trying to figure out how to get the best macros. Sometimes the focus is spot on, other times when I think it should be, it turned out to have missed the focus. I've been using Center Focus. These were taken in Kodachrome, and thanks for looking.

Lorenzo, always a pleasure to view your work!

As you may have discovered already, the Z990 has a very shallow depth of field in macro mode. You might want to consider Aperture priority when shooting macro or super macro. The Z series cameras tend to be a bit conservative on the aperture settings.

Also, you'll want to watch the zoom, especially on super macro. If the camera won't focus, try zooming all the way to wide angle and use center or selectable zone focus.

I look forward to more great pictures from your tropical paradise.

Hi Lorenzo,
Another wonderful series from our butterfly expert on KTF :-)

Nicely shot pics with the btterflies at various poses, they seem to know how to "model" for you.

Are these taken with your replacement Z990? I remember reading you siad you had some problems with the earlier one.

Lorenzo,

I assume you're using the Macro+ mode. During my experimentations with the Z990 and this Macro+ mode, I noticed that the extremely short field depth can pose a challenge with focus.

To mitigate most issues, I do use the spot focus mode to make sure focus happens on a predictable point on the subject. I do suspect that, sometimes, even with spot mode, the focus is not exactly where I thought it would be.

Also, I noticed that the slightest movement from the subject can actually cause focus issues, which is totally understandable.

Very nice shots. Thanks for sharing.

Very very nice series here. Appears nearly razor edge sharp with lovely coloration.
