PS7 vs. PSP7

PSP7 has quite a number of built-in effects that PS7 does not have (and vice versa). Try out the effects browser tool (Effects menu). It's a quick way to get a sample of all the effects (filters) w/o actually having to run them.
I recently bought PSP7 Anniversary Ed. for $20 (after rebates) from
Amazon.com. I already use Photoshop 7 but couldn't pass this up. 1.
Is there anything PSP7 can do that Photoshop can't (or at least not
as easily)? 2. What are some good websites for PSP users? Thanks!

It'll have to wait until Dec. 25th but I'm looking forward to trying it out. I need another graphics program like I need another hole in my head (I've still got two Photoshop books sitting here I've hardly had time to open)!

I remember there is a sculpture effect which produces a 3dish golden emboss which is unlike anything I have seen... Too bad I lost the touched up photo..

-- I really find cloning in psp7 much easier and also the red eye reduction is great. It also has picture tubes which is fun especially if you are playing with kids. you can add butterflies, balloons etc etc to images. Just fun stuff but i am glad i have both programs.

Very rough picture but lots of butterflies.

The computer my graphics programs are on has plenty of space so I'm looking forward to seeing what PSP can do. Our little grandson will love seeing pictures of himself with butterflies and such like that. I take it PSP tubes are similar to Painter's image hose then.

I'm sure I'll find this out when I install the program, but does PSP recognize .psd files and does PS recognize .psp files, or must I open them as jpegs? I looked in my drop down list of file formats to open in PS7 and didn't see .psp on the list.

Cassandra

PSP recognizes .psd files, including layers and masks; I can't say that there are no problems, but I have yet to have any. PS does not recognize .psp files (the hubris of the market leader).

i havent been able to master the layers and masks in PSP I just stick to PS for that.Its probably just because the display is so different and I have been really studying PS7.

I have given my grandson PSP7 and cant wait to see him at christmas and let him put balloons all over sydney harbour LOL

Hi Cassandra - In addition to the features others have mentioned, you may want to try using PSP for its:

1. Clarify effect (at a very low setting);
2. Salt and Pepper noise filter;
3. Edge Preserve Smoothing noise filter;
4. JPEG Artifact Removal; and
5. Manual Color Correction filter.

Funny you should say so. I managed to figure layers in PSP, but never came close to figuring out masks in any useful way. Then I got PS, which is supposedly more difficult, and found the masks concept far more intuitive. I've been able to translate some, but not all, of that knowledge back to PSP7. I still find PSP7 easier for some things, but fewer and fewer as time goes on.

My grandson is still a little young to be playing with graphics programs (he's 3 now) but he's already got his own computer (an ancient 386 I believe) with some childrens' games on it!

Thanks Greg! I'm tempted to install it on the sly and try it out now except I've been so busy with other projects I don't have time!!! lol Looking forward to PSP even more after reading everyone's posts...

I think that virtually every tutorial on PSP7 that exists on the web is categorized and linked to from this site. It is a real goldmine and has been kept up for several years. You should look closely at the "Photo Retouching" category. I have found many useful links there.

Thanks, Mary. That looks like a great resource.
