Tried to upgrade the firmware in my D-60 from 1.0.2 to 1.0.4

Followed the instructions on the Canon Upgrade Site.

Formatted the 1Gb Microdrive

Copied the D60v104.fir file to the root of the 1Gb Microdrive CF card using the CF Card reader. Ejected the card and placed in camera. Turned the camera on.

Nothing...

Placing the file in the CANONMISC folder or an empty CANONnnn folder.

Nothing....

I've even read the manual. :-(

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I haven't upgraded a D60, but I've done a D30 and a 1D a few times.

I seem to recall that the filename you need to copy to the MD or CF ends in .bin , not in .fir

I think someone mentioned they had this problem and it was caused by the capitalization being missing from the file name.

and the original is in all caps. Very interesting. It has worked for me when I delete all files and copy the firmware file to the MD or CF. Should work, but the file name is important!

The 1.0.2 file is in all caps. The 1.0.4 flile is not. Try deleting all files when in the card reader and copying only the .fir file to the card (or MD). Worked fine for me.

Changed the file name from D60v104.fir to D60V104.fir and then to D60V104.FIR but still no luck. D-60 just wants to take pictures when I put the card back in the camera and turn it on.

Got it! :-)

Realized I was not at the root folder of the MD but under DCIM. Deleted everything and recopied the file. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the help, now I can go back to taking pictures!

If my memory serves me from the times I used to update my D30 with the firmware, it expressly said you had to use a flashcard and not a microdrive I believe. This may be the cause of your problems.

I used to use the little 16 mg one I had.

Do a search for 1.0.4

Basically it fixes a couple of bugs in the earlier firmware that some people were going nuts over.

The problems were related to RAW continuous mode only, I think. But the problems were serious because when the problem occurs, a picture would be taken, but the wrong thumbnail (or none at all) would get attached to the picture. So that when you reviewed the pictures in the back LCD or on the monitor on the computer, they'd be the wrong picture. Also there was a fix related to a problem writing to the flash, I think.

Manny:
Surprised you have not had an answer to your question.

The new firmware was released about 10 days ago I guess. It addresses the problem the D60 had with earlier firmware when shooting RAW in continuous mode. It cures the "thumbnail bug."

If you shoot RAW/Continuous, you NEED IT!!
