Does Olympus still have the international warranty deal on its cameras?

That would be a yes :) ...as an example...i purchased my e-pl2 from a vendor in the Philippines who imported it from Hong Kong. The shutter got damaged and i had it replaced in Malaysia. They didn't charge me at all although i had to wait almost 3 weeks since they had to import the replacement part from Japan...

Good to know this is still in effect; I'm surprised most people are not aware of it. It's a plus for us Oly users.

My latest G3 came in from Hong kong with International warranty and also i was looking at the Olympus same deal.....but USA resellers are different the US warranty does not cover the camera in other countries, they want you to buy an international warranty..that was my advice from Sony...........mind you if put to to the test in a court of law i doubt it would stand up.............not here in Oz anyway.

Not sure how to read your reply. Panasonic does not offer intenational warranty. Olympus has always offered an international warranty and as far as I know, still does. As far as I know, the initial US warranty covers it for one year and this has to be honored by other countries.

From the Olympus Global website:

Use your Olympus digital camera and accessories all around the world with the comforting knowledge that if anything should happen to it/them, service and repair would be available under the warranty no matter where around the globe you may roam.

As of April 1, 2004, Olympus is offering its warranty service on an international basis, and regardless of where the specific digital camera or accessory was purchased. Should issues arise with your product within one year of the purchase date, customers will be able to bring that product - along with the warranty certificate and proof of purchase - to an Olympus Service Station or authorized Olympus distributor worldwide for service.

I see your point but even though DWI (Digital World International)have a wharehouse in Australia they still ship direct from Hong Kong and there is no GST (10%) payable don't ask me how they manage to avoid GST but I believe it is something to do with sending the item to themselves and then reshipping or maybe it is because they are registered in Australia

As for the warranty it is 12 months standard any where in the World on all their products plus you can add extra warranty supplied by a third party if you wish.

i had a 580EX2 plus battery pack supplied with a genuine Canon Warranty but I purchased one of my lenses from B@H in New York and the US warranty did not cover the lens.

The same with Sony they reckon you have to purchase an extra warranty if from the US and sent to another country ,yet i can purchase a Sony product from DWI with their standard 12 months warranty included and the same for Olympus....you will notice in the print at the bottom of the page that all their items regardless are provided with a 12 month warranty
see below plus link

'So check out our deals and grab yourself a bargain and dont forget when you shop with DWI you get great advice and best of all you save lots of money while getting a Full warranty like you would have if you purchased from any other camera store / shop, so take the worry out of your shopping forget JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Bing Lee, **** Smith Electronics (DSE), The Good Guys, Strathfield, Teds, Clive peeters, Clive peters, Retravision, Tandy, Camera store, Digital Rev or even Camera House, we carry a complete range from all manufactures in our digital camera warehouse.'

Hello , my name is Jacob C:

Thank you for contacting the E-Mail Sales Department at B&H Photo Video and Pro Audio.

As a rule all products that are sold by Sony in the USA are only covered by a USA Warranty. We don't state otherwise and therefore if you need it fixed you would need to send it back to the USA and have a address in the USA where sony would have to send the product. None of the camera's that we sell have this TLW Warranty.

We do however a international warranty that would cover you in your country.

2 year warranty $44.99
3 year warranty $66.99

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Thank you, we appreciate your business.

I asked this question of Olympus Australia last week. The answer was that they do not take part in the International Warranty so if you purchase from overseas, the camera has to be returned to the point of purchase if there is a problem.

If the retailer is shipping directly from overseas to Australia, and the item is under $1000, they may be able to get away with GST for now.

When I buy my GF1, I got an international warranty card. I am pretty sure it is international. Can't say the same about lenses.

According to Olympus Australia's part of the reputable network of dealers so I fail to see how it would be to their advantaGE not to participate in the international warranty.

it was $1048.00Au freight included which is why i was scratching my head as I have been hit before as they include the freight then calculate the GST and whack on a Customs duty as well.
