most, i would sayNetbooks - different use all together but might work for some people.
i would think reviewing on a trip/location shoot would be a big deal. chimping is a tricky way to do critical review, imo (and see below)The biggest difference aside from the screen (if you're not using it for reviewing then the netbook option is a poor choice) is the availability.
isn't an iPad kind of a netbook with Apple's premium pricing slapped on? and for only 64gb of memory for about twice the price of a netbook (yet less than half the storage) just sayin'... ;-}A great portion of the alure of the iPad is that once you power it on you've got instant computing.
so, that saves you a whole 2 minutes? really? and because you can't check your files so well, are you chimping more, and so more than eating up that couple of minutes? With the HyperDrive and similar you can have your files half (or completely) transferred before a netbook is booted up.
definitely true. if space is that much of a premium, then a drive is surely the way to go. uuuuhhhh, but hang on a sec. are those wheely bags and trolley systems designed for point and shooters? they're for gear hounds and pros. the latter take everything they could possibly need, and gear hounds----not usually worried about having too much, it doesn't seem. probably a few extra cubic inches available for the extra size of a netbook...Portability is another thing. There are some nice slim netbooks but none of them pack as lightly as a Hyperdrive.
point taken here, although it takes an hour for a netbook to run out of juice at least. but if you're in the middle of a very wild place, w/o a vehicle, then definitely a drive has the advantage here. otherwise, just a tiny bit of planning ought to do with a netbook. and of course then there are the other advantages, like tethering possibilities, web work, etc. Also, I've transferred over 300gb onto a Hyperdrive without any need for extra juice. If you're leaving your netbook on to reach high-availability you might quickly run out of juice. If I did run out of juice for my Hyperdrive I can power it with four AA's. Great for on a long road. There are probably some decent options for netbooks too but probably not as convenient as some AA's.
