Anyone interested in a Sony F-series devoted site?

I was toying with the idea of creating a F7X7 fan site (like the Minolta 7 series has, and the Olympus E cameras). Is anyone interested? What would be a good domain name? What features would be wanted?

Any input would be great, even negative ones (like "That's a really stupid idea!").

What would be a catchy URL? f7x7.com seems kinda unwieldy

You could have a section devoted to the different optional tele/wide lenses with pictures of them. People who owned each lens could review it.

Also, a place for cool f7x7 inventions to be displayed and demonstrated.

Cool beans. Alas, both 7x7 AND f7x7.com are taken!!!

My URL creativity is running low! I think I'd probably best avoid "sony" in the URL also!

I understand what you're saying. Maybe a Sony camera site? Or is that too broad in scope?

I really hope people don't take this the wrong way as me trying to compete with this site (which I could never hope to do), but I'd just like a better way to find info about sony cameras than a general "SONY FORUM"

If you build it, they will come.

Well, I will at least. :)

I think its a great idea, but you should link this forum to it rather than have a seperate one. It gets too confusing switching between forums, and this one is great already.

pictures and info on F707/717 accessories would be great.
shooting tips from the pros
photoshop editing tricks
printer reviews
could do surveys on things of interest
potd or potw
price watches
classified add section for people reselling memory sticks, used items etc

hmm as for a web URL - how bout http://www.717rocks.com ?

Unless of course I end up getting pis#@$ed off at my camera then you'd have to call it http://www.717sucks.com

good luck!

Make it just broad enough to not be too adversly effected when things change with Sony. For example what if they change the F series to the G series for some reason in the future? What aspect are you trying to target? Prosumer and better Sony cameras? Only Sony cameras that have full manual mode?

Identify the market you are targeting first and then the rest will be easier to determine.

Hi!

Read Sony backwards and name the site ynos.com =)

Dunno if it's good/bad/otherwise as an idea. A lot of it would depend on you and the amount of work and money you were willing to put into it to get it off the ground, especially for a POTD/POTW type thing.

I'm more interested in photo/camera tips, photo critiques, etc. than just general topic stuff. There's only so many hours in a day that a person can spend on the web... :-)

FWIW, there is an older, established site that I like to visit once in a while, The Mavica Information Exchange, that has some nice folks and several forums dedicated to Sony cams, general, photos, sell/buy, etc with a very good reference/link page. I think it was originally devoted strictly to Sony Mavicas, but that has changed and now covers any Sony camera. It doesn't get the traffic that STF gets.

Not trying to discourage you. Your ideas and implementation could be the next big site. Best of luck.

It would last longer if the domain name is more universal, and easy to remember, like
http://www.7sony7.com

Can anyone comment if Sony would have a fit if i used sony in the domain name?

Johnson,

I don't think you can use Sony in your domain name. Well not for long, anyway. But since the Mavica site uses a Sony DC family name, maybe you could use Cybershot or Cybershot_Prosumer or some such.

I like your idea. Shay's suggestion about keeping the name generic is a good one. I also like Gary's suggestions for site content. I'd like to see lots of links, to other outstanding sites and resources. Maybe even a 7X7 FAQ's page :-) Ron Parr's site, is very good, but there are so many specific 7X7 questions that seem to come up over and over. Maybe a 7X7 focused FAQ's page would help some folks.

DPR is great, as is Imaging Resourses. But they don't cover everything. IMO, any additional 7X7 web resources/information would supplement, not supplant, these sites.

Good luck to you and keep us informed :-)

as far as I know there is no lawyer in this world to restrict me using "sony" name the way I wanted - "7sony7" especially in domain, and if this domain name is still available anybody can use it, believe or not...
