... then all the thread participants should be banned also for creating and supporting trolling

It is entertainment and very amusing as an observer here - and it is really fun to see how much agitation a person can generate after joining on almost the same day !!!!!!!!

Beware of billx08, dotbalm, Kim Letkeman, buckshot, rattymouse, Yanko Kitanov and whoever of that "gang" I might have forgotten. They post across forums in "pack", they "attack" across forums in "pack", and they extend that activity onto Kim Letkeman's blog too.
What an obnoxious, slandering, stalking, harassing, cyber bully thing to post

I am not a photographer, I’m just a guy that takes pictures.

I'm going out on a limb and express a different point of view.

Number one, It occurs to me that the fact that these trolls routinely can max out demonstrates that there is willing and ready market for their product.
I and many others can't even get half a dozen responses of our questions.

Number two, what offends me far worse than "trolls" is when a newbie asks a fair and legitimate question only to be told off. To be told that the question has been asked and answered a hundred times and he pr she needs to get on the stick and Google rather than wasting the forums time.

We know this individual was posting under at least 4 different identities.
aer4artsake
Angry Pixel
CaseyKittyKat
FeedMe
PeterPans
tilly89

Reminds me very much of a troll who once trolled under accounts like
ThomasMiller
Brian Coles
lordofnikon
armando amayo
ThomasH_always
EricIsDerek
touristguy87
Bobsprit
captRob
captRB
Is this individual still posting in this forum under yet another identity or identities?
Yes.
Are there other people on this forum playing the same game?
Almost certainly.
Is he a plant from another manufacturer?
No, he's a person who needs psychiatric help.
I am willing to concede that certainly some folks have had real issues with focus, spots on their sensors, etc. However, if we subtract out the above individual, the users he/she influenced, and others like him/her that may still be operating here, we might just discover that the D7000 doesn't have any more real issues than any other camera Nikon has released. Imagine that.
One doesn't have to imagine that - it's sure the D7000 doesn't have any more real issues than any other camera Nikon has released.

I agree. It should also be noted that most questions from real newbie's are not actually answered that way very often. I do watch for it and I am a relative newbie myself. Just my opinion. But initial questions by folks like Angry-Pixel and his AKA's have a souring affect on the forum we must all try to avoid.

...They feed not on comments but on the thought that someone out there considers them to be right or to be an expert. Bullies, trolls, it's all the same. If you ignore them they simply overrun you. The only thing that works is if the community presents a united front of rejection of their absurd bile.
With respect, I think you are incorrect about the motivations of trolls. They don't want to convince people that they are an expert. Well, they MAY... but their PRIMARY motivation is the enjoyment they gain from making other people angry. They do indeed feed on replies to their posts.

In video games there is an even better term for this kind of person. They are called a griefer. There is even a term for what you do when a griefer has gotten the best of you: you ragequit.

Ignoring trolls on the forums is the best approach, and I have seen it work elsewhere. Engage them, even with a unified front, and I truly believe that you will only encourage them.

Zoran only wishes that he'd be able to attack in a pack. He's so obnoxiously clueless that he's never been able to be accepted even as an "enemy of my enemy". To be attacked by ZoranC ("C" == "child"?) should be a badge of honor. Has anyone other than ZoranC repeatedly stalked, insulted and attacked Thom Hogan? Why DPR hasn't yet put him out of his misery is one of the world's great enigmas.

Always remember internet rule #14: "Do not feed the trolls - it means they win". This was considered so important to the internet that it comes way before internet rule #31.

Here's a good primer on trolls: http://www.teamtechnology.co.uk/troll.htm

P.S. anyone using the term "fanboi" should be forced back to the World of Warcraft forums ;-)

Nope, no holier than thou here. Just fed up with idiots like Peter Pans who clog up the forums. I didn't say don't participate but what the heck are these guys commenting on AF issues etc. when they don't own the camera and have probably never even used one.

I sense a lot of "BETTER THAN THOU" in your post.. Also, since when did it become a Prerequisite to have said camera or any camera to participate in a thread?

Both aer4artsake (a.k.a as Angry Pixel), and his alter ego CaseyKittyKat have been banned for trolling, but don't think this is the end of him. He will be back under another alias, no doubt. Trying to discourage him by running up threads to 150 does not work (look who is the top poster in this forum at this time), so please just ignore this guy and other trolls like him, and don't hesitate to use the complaint button for these types. It just hurts the forum when genuine posts are constantly pushed down by this kind of trolling behavior. I like this forum and don't want stop using it because someone with mental issues is using it as a group therapy session.

Free speech is one thing, but anger and abuse should not be tolerated, even on a forum.

Maybe we can all work together to rid the forum of this pernicious bad behavior that is tainting this forum. At least I hope so.

Best regards,
Jon
excellent points, jo→ NIKON ←.

I'm curious however. Was there something in particular that bothered you?

We need moderators who don't take crap from people. eg: NikonCafe is a good forum where people have some respect and try to help each other out.

Funny how DPR is so bad at this and attracts so many trolls, even ones who don't own the camera in question!
I suspect the DPR moderators keep their eyes on the number of posts, rather than the content, unfortunately.

Some things I have noticed about trolls on DPR:
  • They seem to be obsessed with the word "fanboy" and use it a lot. The trolls seem to think it is an effective cudgel to use against the well adjusted, that they resent so much.
  • They are usually poor photographer (if they are photographers at all).
  • They rarely post any photos or have any photos in their gallery. and if they do post any photos, they are of poor composition and image quality.
  • They are argumentative, anti-social and rude.
  • They contribute nothing of value to the forum, just negativity.
  • They are resentful of those with money or talent. Both of which they apparently have in short supply.
  • They are angry people, who live angry lives. (Maybe violent in real life.)
  • They are anti-social.
  • They seem to be over-compensating for an inferiority complex.
  • In short, they are pathetic losers looking for reactions to their bad behavior and have found a place and a way to get it, in these forums.

Best regards,
Jon
The hypocrisy on this forum knows no bounds.... Reading this post I think the troll with multiple identities isn't the only one with issues....

Also with respect, different trolls have different motivations. I've seen trolls who speak utter nonsense (become prominent and respected and take over a forum. For example there was one troll who on a flight simulation newsgroup would say stupid things like "check lists are unnecessary". Anyone who knows anything about aviation knows this statement is false and dangerous. The trouble is these fools say things that sound plausible to inexperienced users, who fall for their hokum and give them the respect they desire. Meanwhile all the more rational and experienced users get fed up with the misinformation and leave. The group/forum turns to manure.

Sammy.

My forum postings reflect my own opinions and not those of my employer. I'm not employed in the photo business.

Not surprised you quoted just a part of my post. Those that are interested can easily establish for themselves what is truth, and would be even more surprised if they would be able to read posts DPR removed.

Has anyone other than ZoranC repeatedly stalked Thom Hogan?
Billie Jean, you keep spreading this slander and keep telling you you would be wise to weigh your words carefully when not having a proof behind them. So far you keep on failing to deliver any support behind it.
Why DPR hasn't yet put him out of his misery is one of the world's great enigmas.
Because unlike some of people you associate yourself with I am not running afoul of the rules, not even close to 20 or so times that one of them has been banned.

is the implementation of karma points. Every post would have an +|- button, which would affect the karma of the poster. If a user receives too many "-" points and his karma goes down, his posts would not get displayed at all. Nobody would reply to his posts and keep the flamewar going.

There is no better solution than this. Moderating would require the presence of a moderator, karma voting would be self-maintaining.
