I have spent several thousand $ on a DSLR and good lenses. I would like to find a way to recoup some of that investment. I am trying to figure out how - I am NOT a professional photographer, but an amateur whose No. 1 hobby has been photography for about 30 years now.

I do take a lot of pictures with my kids playing in all kinds of sports. I also take pictures of all of the kids, not just my own, and, over the past couple of years, have uploaded 200 or so images per team to Ofoto and then made the images available "free" for printing to the other players.

I would like to find a similar service (since Ofoto does not offer it) that will allow me to make a marginal profit from those prints. For example, Ofoto currently charges $.49 per 4x6 print. What I would envision is an Ofoto like service that charges, say, $.98 per 4x6 print, with $.49 going to the lab and $.49 going to me. Ideally, a similar margin can be arranged for other print sizes etc. and hopefully this lab would offer several "margin" templates that would allow me to charge various levels of markups. For example, for the teams my kids play on, perhaps I'd only charge 10% additional, but if I took images of kids completely unrelated to my own kids' teams, the markup would be the 100% as indicated above.

This would appear to be a very logical and simple business model and I am sure this service probably exists somewhere already. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Ideally a reputable company with print quality and services quite similar to that offered by Ofoto.

Thank you.

What a great idea!

I wonder what kind of response you'd get if you sent this proposal/question in to ofoto, snapfish or shutterfly?

Good Luck!

Mike - I have done that with Ofoto. I got a reply thanking me for the idea and that they will consider this along with other ideas and suggestions they get from customers. Obviously Kodak is interested in selling prints and a sharing service like this one is a great tool for them to sell more prints. Hopefully they will do something about it. Have not communicated the idea to the other two services. Stefan

Thanks Mike. Looks like Printroom and Photofeflect are the front runners, with Printroom a more basic/simpler/cheaper starting point whereas Photoreflect appears to be geared toward the full time professional.

Great recommendations. Thank you for taking the time.

Both of the suggested sites (dotPhoto Pro and Printroom) seem interesting. Being a Swede however, I do not want to spend money and time for shipping from the US. Does anyone know of a European counterpart?
