NEX-7...wish list

Maybe not impossible. Maybe just tricky.

If they did have a sensor movement IS system, I would guess that they'd either disable it when an OSS lens was attached, or disable the OSS.

Do not people wish for World Peace? Republicans and Democrats to agree? A Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup? Israeli Jews and Palestinians to coexist happily? A 15-year-old kid to have more flesh-and-blood friends than Facebook 'friends'? Reality TV shows to have any resemblance to actual reality?

Many people wish for lots of impossible things. Besides, there's still no definitive proof one way or the other as to whether an EVF would work with the NEX3 or 5...so no matter how small the hope, I'll keep wishing for one. I've got a better chance than World Peace!

LOL! Well said. I'd prefer built in, but your response was classic.

Just for fun!

In body stabilization. For my Zuikos and other MF lenses.

Are there any IS systems that are done entirely in firmware? The ones I've read about are electromechanical ... actually moving a lens or sensor to compensate for camera shake. I would think an in-body system like this would require more room between mount and sensor and change the registration distance of the mount. I.e. not an option.
Hmm... I read around a bit, and it looks like a sensor movement based IS system might work, depending on how much "extra" illumination E-mount lenses provide around the edges of the sensor. It would be fine for FF lenses on NEX, since they have lots of extra illumination, but that's not really Sony's goal, I don't think.

How would that work with the 18-55 kit lens? Would you get two IS systems working together, or fighting each other?

The 18-55 kit lens' OSS works great (far better than I would expected for a lens at that low price!). I regret that 16mm pancake isn't stabilized.

My point is that NEX sells a lot not only because E-mount lenses, but because there are converters that allow the use of virtually all MF lenses and also because Sony LA-EA1 Lens adapter allow use of all non stabilised Maxxum and Sony Alpha lenses.

If A33 and A55 have IBIS in such a small body, have it in a NEX body would cost very LITTLE thickness and, in my oppinion would be a GREAT benefit. If A77 has it, I willl upgrade, otherwise will keep my NEx-5.

Even EVF - a great thing - is secondary to IBIS in my oppinion.

I would be pleased if the nex came with these as well as a pony. I always wanted a pony...

Nothing wrong with hoping, for sure. Do a search on this forum for a post about the Sony NEX smart connector. The OP on that thread posted the pinouts for the smart connector. Nothing at all there for video.

Oh well, at least we will have the NEX-7 :-)

I assume you have seen the latest rumor and the new rendering. If the final camera is anything close to that rendering, then I know what I want for Christmas :-)

the only problem i see is lack of small quality lenses. hello sony lol..
Yes indeed, and I think that situitation will only be exasperated with the introduction of the NEX-7.

Wrong answer, NO built-in EVF PLEASE!!!

NO built-in EVF!!! :)
So far, everything is pointing to the NEX-7 having a builtin EVF (and a very good one too).

I think the NEX-7 is aimed at the advanced shooter (24MP sensor, 3MP EVF, lots of buttons and dials), unlike the current NEX's, which are aimed at the point and shoot crowd.

But to truely succeed, Sony needs more native E mount lenses. And the NEX-7 will need high quality lenses too.

Anyway, less than 6 weeks until we know for sure.

For you (no builtin EVF), there is a rumored NEX-5 replacement on the way.

Yes, lenses are rapidly becoming the achilles heel of NEX.

1. electronic virtual horizon/leveling
2. faster response in operation
3. ISO100 or even ISO50 for lower base noise and DR
4. flash sync connector
5. could be little bigger when a little flash is build in

6. When full HD video is build in, please make it full hd. NEX5 video looks like lower res upscaled ugly.
7. more bracketing options (more frames, more step options...)
8. wired remote trigger

9. as from the "sample picture" dual wheel settings for shutter and aperture like Leica X1
10. more customizeable hotkeys (for peaking, loupe, iso etc...)

Really sharp 16-55 (24-82) 2.8-4.0 Zeiss branded OSS E-mound lens with better edge performance.

Hi, I'm a GF1 user currently (well, 5DII + GF1), and I am rooting hard for the Nex7 (just like I was for the GH2, G3, and EP3), as no upgrades have been right enough for me to upgrade yet.

What I would want most (in order):

1: Top quality lightweight/small lenses (and while we're at it, a UWA)
2: Solid build (weatherproofing if possible)
3: More manual control without going through menus
4: Integrated EVF

The sensor can be the same one in the K5 and new Nikons, it's the lenses, controls, and build that is holding up the Sony from being the best (hands down) on the market. I think there's a good chance that Sony gets most of that right with the 7, but let's see.

I wish that the future NEX would have Night Shot capability for both camera and video modes like my old F717 did.
