Hi,
I currently have a Canon 40D + EF-S 17-55 2.8 which I use for (mostly indoor) family photos. I mostly shoot at around f5.6 in order to get a decent depth of field for fast moving kids.
I recently bought a Panasonic GH2 with the intention of replacing both the 40D and my video camera. However, the GH2 stills seem to be lacking a certain something - it's hard to put my finger on it I just much prefer the 40D photos. I plan to keep the GH2 as a family outing stills/video combo. However, I have also given up on the idea of selling my Canon gear.
What I would like is a 1.6 crop Canon stills camera with lower noise than my 40D which I don't currently use above 1600 ISO - even then I much prefer 800 ISO.
So, finally, my question. When the 7D was released there was much speculation about its sensor being noisier then previous Canon 1.6 crop cameras - especially the 40D. Is there now a consensus established with regard to this sensor's noise characteristics? Is it better than the 40D and if so by how much?
Best Regards,
Julian.
