Dennis, very nice series. Glad to see the excellent results with the E-30, 50-200 + the EC-20, one of my favorite combinations. How close were the subjects?

These are truly magnificent. Take lots and lots while you can as these birds are sluts. When the sun / summer comes they are gone never to be seen again. I also find winter best for these type of birds and on a bright overcast day with a giant Garry Fong in the sky without shadows bring out the best in the colours. As I said shoot lots and lots , my wife often says “ Let’s go don’t you have enough pictures of this bird/animal ?” and my standard reply is “ No the best shoot of this bird/animal is still hidden in the camera and I am trying to find it.”
These are truly spectacular. You asked about the E-5 in another post. Where I would see the difference ( as I also have a E-30) is in the fine feather detail on the birds back where you can PP without destroying the structure. You guys make me confuses when I see these I want to pull out the E-30 and when I saw some hummers I want to pull out the E-5 . Maybe I should just take both and get myself really confused.
P.S. if I had a bird like this around I would give it a name.
Kurt lobe the Backbird (First post) . That E-510 does take some good stuff. I will add in this case with the shooters assistance. The E-510 is very good but blink yours eyes and it blows the highlights. I often think it has a dark sense of humour.
It’s great to see stuff in and around houses. Someone said ( I think it was Gandhi) you just a nation by the way it treats it animals. Except for the Ancient Egyptians the looked after the cats and killed everyone else.
Hey the first one is great. Do a bit of localized sharpenng (Baby birds ) and fade out th edges and you will have a brilliant picture. Its nice as it is as well.

If you want comments , comment even if it's crappy say so as we are all adults here . ( Well maybe the rest of you) and if you want to be ugly , be gentle as its Sunday ( Well that was yesterday from here I am)
Strut your wares and do your thing but silence is the worst form of disapproval.
If people don't get comments they don't come back. Even gentle bad ones make people come back to prove you wrong.
advice. I agree about taking plenty of shots while you have the chance. I had previously seen plenty of these kingfishers but had never got close enough to get any good shots. So this fellow is giving me plenty of opportunities so I am making the most of it. Trying to get some diving/fishing shots but that is proving very difficult.
Question about using flash for getting some shots of this fellow. I have the FL50R and a better beamer but have trouble with the flash settings. Is it better to shoot manual and the flash on manual? How do I get the shutter speed higher then than the max sync speed? Any advice on camera and flash settings would be appreciated.
I think I will call him "Bluey" a well known Aussie nickname.
I have found with my limited use of flash is to shoot normally and set the flash to manual and play with the power settings to sort of fill in. normally about 1/16 or around there.
