Hi,
i love my A55 but i love the coverage of the 16mm on the nex.

I have a budget of £300 and just need a little wider coverage than the 18-55 gives me.

Can anyoneoffer any lens advice as i am considering for the money to pick up a nex3 with the 16mm pancake. That way i dont need to keep switching lenses. Is there any good wide angles sony or other brand that i could get for my A55 for no more than £300.
Thanks.

You have the Sony 16-105mm, maybe a bit more.
And the old Sigma 10-20mm, very nice and very wide.
Sigma got a new 8-16mm but maybe more expensive.

Buy used if the price is to high.
If you could find a used Sony/Zeiss 16-80mm that lens is also very good.

If wide is where you want to be, I would get a Sigma 10-20mm.

BUT! Be sure it's auto focus is ok with your A55 camera. Sigma will
maybe fix it for free, but best to check. This is if you buy used.
If you buy new just make sure the lens is an updated one so it is ok to use
with your SLT-A55 camera.

If money is no problem (or you find one used), and ultra wide is where
you want to be, get the new Sigma 8-16mm lens.
The new Sigma 8-16mm can't take a regular filter, so if you are using filters
often go for the Sigma 10-20mm lens instead. It use 77mm filters.

Sony themself got a 11-18mm lens, but it is maybe a bit to expensive.
And "all about lenses for the Sony/Minolta mount" look at this webpage:

Sigma 15mm f/2.8 prime is sharp and great lens on both APSc and FF Alpha cameras. It is 1/2 of Sony 16mm f/2.8 fisheye price.

Between 16mm and 18mm there is not so much difference that buying a lens or even a lens-camera-combo would pay. You should go at least to 12mm or below as said by the other forum members.

are you concidering primes to? samyang 14mm f/2.8 i a great uwa lens (from reviews) and also FF compartible if you eta film cam or a FF digital. remebmer that its manual focus but it has a huper focal distance of 3.5m@f/2.8 on aps-c (2.33@f/2.8 on FF)

Agree with the above. I have the Sigma 10-20mm (older version f4-5.6) and am quite happy with it. The price is in your range, but there may be a compatibility problem with the A55.

Recently, I bought the Rokinon 8mm super wide angle lens and have found it to be even more useful than the 10-20mm! It is an inexpensive manual lens, very sharp, fun to use and a very good value.

I have the old Sigma 10-20mm too In the meantime there are newer lenses in the market. Check dyxum.com, Kurt Mugger, SLRgear and several other sources.

Sony nex with 16mm lens is a fun, small package , when and where I bought it was cheaper than any WA lens. And the video has less problems with overheating then Sony A55.You can add to this combination Sony VCLECU1 High Definition Wide Angle Conversion Lens which gives you 12mm( with 2.8 F number). Sometime is good to have a small camera. Cheers, Larry
