Now there would be a coup !

Please Canon, how about joining in the interchangeable lens camera race with something great... a G13 with some great compact lenses (fast ones for me please) and the ability to adapt EF-S and EF lenses with AF and all...

Go-on Canon, you can do it... :-)

Why not just ask a G with a 1.8 lens and not insanely priced wide/tele converters?

EF lenses mean goodbye to compactness, no?

What do you mean by a 1.8 lens, prime or zoom?

No, some new smaller lenses with some collapsible aspect like the compact ones, let's say a new EF-XS format, and an adapter ring to mount the larger lenses if wanted retaining full AF.

One would most likely buy it with two or three small lenses, but would love to attach a big EF lens on occasion...heehee, just imagine a 600mm f/4 on a G13...

It could be a great backup for an amateur DSLR owner.

Yes EF lenses do not get magically smaller.

If you want to mount EF lenses on the G, hence forgetting about compactness, (still I don't see why you would) wouldn't an adapter be a simpler soluiton?

Meh, don't see the point. Adapter and scope seem a better solution.

Really? How would it be better that a 1000D body?

I would agree with this but forget using huge DSLR lenses. Bottom line. Small sensor cameras do not need interchangeable lenses but large sensor cameras do. How about Canon (or others) making an ILC with crop factor about 3. With 2 lenses (1) 25-75mm (2) 70-250 (FF equivalent). Hopefully, this camera with the 25-75, would be manageable hanging on a neck strap. Such a camera could be a one camera solution.

The Q has low IQ certainly.

It's not going to happen. If Canon do make a camera like that it will have a larger sensor, and won't be a part of the G series.

What I am suggesting is being able to use small, medium or large lenses on the camera. You have CHOICE.

If you don't see it, no worries ;-)

not better, different. with one of the compact lenses, it could also be used as a high IQ compact camera.

Seriously, the world didn't need the Pentax Q - a compact sized sensor and interchangeable lenses - why should Canon follow Pentax off the cliff? When Canon gets around to a mirrorless camera, as another poster noted, it should have a much larger sensor and it won't be a G series camera.

yeah good idea; add a camera to an already oversupplied niche market.

if I mock you, it may be well deserved.

might be of some use for extreme macrographers and would be paparazzi.

I thought that the rationale for premium/bridge compact was "pro-like" control in a more convenient (more compact/less expensive) package at the expense of lower IQ, less DOF control and less lens choice than DSLRs. That's a proposition that a priori should appeal to the enthusiast sunday photographer.

Instead of refining that concept (i.e. making fixed lens cameras more "system" cameras) you are proposing the creation of a system that has only advantages in very special situations.

Wouldn't it make more sense to use specific solutions for those special cases? (For instance http://www.zeiss.de/C1256A770030BCE0/WebViewAllE/2BDF49DD10C81ED9C12574C900483632 )

A sony R1 with a 2/3" or 1" sensor, faster lens and appropiate accesories seems a far sounder concept for the target audience, photographic community and the world in general.

.. and the ability to adapt EF-S and EF lenses with AF and all...
No point. Those lenses will have insufficient resolution for increased magnificaton necessary from the tiny G12 sensor.

This post on that topic:

is only four years old.
Now that's not fair, you know that that joe mama guy was just a rebellious visionary...
;-)

I'm repeating myself, but in fact what I would like is a G12 with a faster lens, this is my round-about way of asking for it... :-)

Doesn't matter, a G13 on a Ef 1200mm f/5.6 L USM lens would just be so cool !

What's cool about very blurred photographs?

Think Lomo. Or iphone.
Exactly! Just about dropping off the lower end of the uncool scale into the "Bottomless Pit of Rank Stupidity"... which is a good place for people who think Lomography is cute, let alone cool.
