Hi,

Apart from the size what else do you check for a Memory stick? I mean is there something that would determine how fast the MS would perform? I heard that for CFs. Also does it matter if the memory stick is not Sony? There seems to be a lot of difference in the prices on the net for MS even for the same size.

there is not a faster or slower memory stick, they are the same.

The brand really does not matter. It can be a problem with some MS readers (from what i have read here) I have a lexar and it gets used WAY more than the sony MS i have and it works just great.

I have 64mb Sony memory sticks and 128 mb Lexar memory sticks. Don't see a difference between the two except for price. So buy Lexar if possible to save money.

I agree. Bought a 128mb Lexar a month ago. After reading here on STF that it was only 1/3 as fast as the Sony, I shot a .tif file comparing the Sony to the Lexar. Same write and read time. Makes no difference.

If you buy a Dazzle USB reader and use Lexar brand sticks, there might be a compatibility problem unless you download the new firmware patch from Dazzle's site.

I use IO-DATA. A 128MB costs USD25 less than a Sony stick & what I understand from the shop I got it from, IO-DATA makes sticks for Sony. They look exactly like the Sony sticks (plastic/material/color). No difference in performance.

Hi Mayank,

I have Lexar, Sony, IO Data, and I have found no variation in their performance. I have lost no files or had any problems with any of them. I also have found the speeds to be the same.

I use the camera to download my shots to the computer. Takes 4 minutes for them to download from a 128 mb memory stick.

I have two Sony and two I-O-Data memory sticks..They are identical to each other except for the brand name printed on them. The I-O-Data work fine and I would not buy another Sony MS unless their prices come down.

So far I only have a 8, and 16 MB card. Still looking for a good price for a 128. I keep missing out on Ebay.
