Or is it my monitor ?

It just looks to me like the water has a "grainyness" about it...

The side of the building looks the same.

Im just a newbie but does water always look like that in digital pics or is this something im seeing for some reason due to my own hardware?

Murphy

It's not of a concert.

It's not at high ISO.

There's no image from the 1D (using exact same lens and settings and distance, etc) to compare.

;)

OK, now it's loaded. First impressions:

It's HUGE.

Hmmm, why so much noise in the water?

I printed an 8x12 of the image. I see a little noise, but cannot tell if it's the printer or the camera. Where do you see it?

Thanks,
Michael

It's all over the water.

Take a look at an unsharpened image, and see if it's still noisy like that.

What kind of sharpening was applied in-camera ?

Never mind, I see in the EXIF that there was no sharpening applied in-camera.

Can you re-post that without any Photoshopping at all ?

hello, i am currently on a dial up here, so downloading the full size tif is out until I am back at the studio next week, but I would prefer a raw file if you would not mind, I have used 5 1DS's including pre and post production cameras, not one has been any more noisey than a D60 and any setting and that includes at 1250 compared to the d60 at 1000, so at 125 I can't even remember seeing noise, but then I shot 100, 200, 400, 800, 1250 shots not the inbetween settings. If you can put up a raw I would love to see the problem.

Stephen
Okay, here goes: a giant 1ds image of the bay in San Francisco.
Comments? Criticisms? Jabs at the level of noise?

It didn't open when I clicked on it. I'll have to do it again, saving it to disk instead.

Since I've loaded PhaseOne, I can take a peak at it.

But, if it's the RAW file, you should at least convert it to JPG-12 and repost. Most of us can't look at a RAW file from the 1Ds just yet.
Okay, here's the link to the unreoutched photo.
And you are all right, lots of noise in the water. What gives?
(note, this image is 31.5 megs)

Photography -- just another word for compromise

Maybe I'm missing something. The files show up as " tif" images, but won't open in anyting but breezebrowser and zoombrowser at full res. I converted to 8bit TIFF for general viewing. In my d30, I get actual .raw extensions. Is this different?
