if its for travel...pentax. look at there lens line up. they make the smallest fully functioning DSLRs, and have many nice pancake and limited lenses perfect for travel (WAY SMALLER than the competition). get a kr, has among the best high ISO performance on aps-c, fast burst speed, and great image quality. for a bit less get a KX, lose the AF confirm points, and use the rest of the money to get a lens.

also, for travelling, the option of being able to use AAs with an adapter with the KR is a huge plus...you can get a spare battery anywhere. Good luck with a proprietary if you're abroad or at a resort and it dies/malfunctions...no more pictures for you until you get into a major city.

It is very hard for some people to understand such simple things:
  • beginners questions have to be put in "Beginners Questions" forum
  • a question is not "News"

You are right; people do misunderstand. This was brought up before. I think when people see News Discussion Forum, some may be thinking it says New Discussion Forum. This might be especially difficult, where English is not their first language. This would be good example, of where the moderators could just move the thread over to another forum.

I don't want to sound rude, but I believe if you don't know what DSLR you should buy then you are not ready to buy a DSLR yet. Once you make a list of your needs/wants then research to see what camera meets those requirements best. When you do that then you won't need to ask others because you will know why you are choosing this camera over the other. Good luck.

Yes, that is what I did. But when you are paralyzed with "what should I buy" phobias, it is very rational to go out and find what other people suggest, so you can just get the decision over and done with so you can start photographing things right away and then learn what you will need in the future.

Keep in mind that it's not as if every manufacturer's models are sharply differentiated from every other's. In the case where the market is saturated with similar models, individuals have yet more reason not to trust themselves to be able to spot the truly important differences (of course, the flip side is the advice they get is likely as a result to be biased by personal preference and focused on news-item distractions rather than a good overview of each system).

Sorry guys i didn't know about the beginners question so i posted it on new discussion...as it was my first day on dpreview and i m very much new to it...i have reposted the forum on the beginner's question section....pls do reply over there...thnx alot :)
