New camera for around £300

I am after a new compact camera, not a dslr, which would be the best one, the one I am looking for at the moment is a Olympus E-PL1, can anyone recommend anything else, thanks.
By compact , I assume it is not unreasonable to suppose that you may have a good 'P&S' type in mind perhaps ??

If that is so, I would certainly suggest you have a look at the Canon S95...it may well be shortly substituted by a new model although that is by no means certain in the immediate future....AND I really wonder just how they can improve it..or will it be a totally new kind next.

But the S95 is truly excellent not only foir the complete nature of what it will do, but the simple fact that you can literally carry it ANYWHERE..shirt-pocket even, if you so wish.. and pics I've had from it just leave me with nothing to be desired
WELL worth a look and hopefully perhaps a try-out if you have the chance.
This could be a gem buy - I've used this Seller and he is good and recommended.

Note that Olympus just announced three new Pen cameras (with much improved autofocus).

You're not providing enough information to get a cogent recommendation. The Olympus is a m4/3 camera. In that category you should also look at Panasonic and Samsung models.

In the P&S category, Canon S95 and Panasonic LX5 are very good. Or maybe you would prefer the outstanding Fuji X100 (bigger sensor, fixed lens, no zoom, a lot more money).
