Ah, okay thenNo, no - that just was a possible bad outcome . Speculation, since we don't know Ricoh's real intentions yet and anything's possible. If you read that post I actually think the first scenario - the good news - is more likely.
Oh my, than what about Panasonic? If 7 letters means fail, does 9 letters mean ubber fail? Lol.I hope Richoh + Pentax will create a new company name. Something that is only 5 LETTER LONG:
Call me superstitious, but FIVE LETTERS is the way to go in imaging business.
- CANON (5 letters) = success
- NIKON (5 letters) = success
- MINOLTA (7 letters) = failed
- PENTAX (6 letters) = struggling
- OLYMPUS (6 letters) = also struggling, but new EP3 + Lite seem hopeful
- SONY (4 letters) = doing alright
Thats because you don't know. Some of smart people said here before that HOYA would sell Pentax in 2-3 years after purchase...
Ricoh is almost unknown company in Russia and rather marginal photo brand in the world...
I don't see good future of Pentax...

Not necessarily. Hoya+Pentax is an unhappy marriage. Like an abuse underappreciated wife , Pentax get shafted in funding + R&D research. Hoya never like the DSLR business, and was trying to unload to JVC before that deal failed through. After JVC's deal collapse, Hoya buried Pentax imaging deep under its technology divisions and Pentax has to share its R&D budget with other assort technology. Result: no new lens made.Let's hope Ricoh do something quickly to show what it intends to do with Pentax. Being sold again is not going to help confidence in the brand unless it can show something new. Otherwise new photographers will just hesitate during this period before buying into Pentax.
I like your optimism, but the thing that Ricoh will most likely do, right away, is to slash 10% of its workforce. This is going to affect the sellability of the Q even more. Who would want to invest in Q lenses now?Finally...Pentax is bought by a company who have experience in camera business, I hope this means that Pentax will become formidable competitor to Canon , Nikon and Sony like it used to be in the past. Things that I want Ricoh do to pentax right away, Put a bigger sensor in Q and drop the pricing, make FF mirrorless and DSLR, medium grade Aps-c dslr and more Lenses....
Yeah, the possibilities there seem quite good at first glance.Seem there is a lot of synergy
Pentax have an ailing compact division
Richoh have no dlsr product
They would be very wise to hang onto the brand, because back in the film days there were Ricoh SLRs and everybody knew they were the very bottom of the market. If Ricoh really want to make waves then this is the deal that could be the spring board for them.
But if they just want the prestige of a dlsr line the brand could wither and die.
WimOn completion of the Acquisition, Ricoh will begin to use the PENTAX brand name for some of its digital camera products, and HOYA will continue to use the PENTAX brand name for their endoscopes and other products.
That's great. On completion of the Acquisition, Ricoh will begin to use the PENTAX brand name for some of its digital camera products, and HOYA will continue to use the PENTAX brand name for their endoscopes and other products.
Q is total disaster, Ricoh should deal with this issue right away, either they have to put a bigger sensor into it or lower the price of Q if they don't want to change anything or just cancel the Q entirely and design a new mirrorless camera from scratch.I like your optimism, but the thing that Ricoh will most likely do, right away, is to slash 10% of its workforce. I sincerely hope your are correct in your assessment. Can't wait to see the new annoucements. Maybe some roadmaps for lenses? and plans to update flash units too? So long, Hoya. Not necessarily. Instead of being STUCKED in an unhappy marriage. RICOH is the new handsome Suitor who actually is attracted to Pentax and wants Pentax. So what if Pentax is being sold again or divorce again? This time, Pentax found a partner who actually wants to dance with her. A happy marriage will produce happy result. I'm looking forward to new RICOH announcement in the next PMA
CFO? I don't know anything about financeYay! Vote Yamin for the CFO position!.... Things that I want Ricoh do to pentax right away, Put a bigger sensor in Q and drop the pricing, make FF mirrorless and DSLR, medium grade Aps-c dslr and more Lenses....
