Ricoh loves Pentax ;)

My last LBA itch ended with buying Tamron Adaptall 400/4 :-)

No, no - that just was a possible bad outcome . Speculation, since we don't know Ricoh's real intentions yet and anything's possible. If you read that post I actually think the first scenario - the good news - is more likely.
Ah, okay then :)

But this is all about Pentax brand. Ricoh bought Pentax, to give themselves extra strength, and achieve goals they cannot achieve with Ricoh brand alone. All this deal means that Pentax means more than Ricoh in general camera brand awareness.

I hope they will keep both brands in camera business avenue, because if they kill one or amalgamating into a new name, they'll kill this whole deal.

Camera buyers want an established brand name, and they are buying brands not cameras, for more than 100 years.

I hope Richoh + Pentax will create a new company name. Something that is only 5 LETTER LONG:
  • CANON (5 letters) = success
  • NIKON (5 letters) = success
  • MINOLTA (7 letters) = failed
  • PENTAX (6 letters) = struggling
  • OLYMPUS (6 letters) = also struggling, but new EP3 + Lite seem hopeful
  • SONY (4 letters) = doing alright
Call me superstitious, but FIVE LETTERS is the way to go in imaging business.
Oh my, than what about Panasonic? If 7 letters means fail, does 9 letters mean ubber fail? Lol.

Finally...Pentax is bought by a company who have experience in camera business, I hope this means that Pentax will become formidable competitor to Canon , Nikon and Sony like it used to be in the past. Things that I want Ricoh do to pentax right away, Put a bigger sensor in Q and drop the pricing, make FF mirrorless and DSLR, medium grade Aps-c dslr and more Lenses....

Some of smart people said here before that HOYA would sell Pentax in 2-3 years after purchase...

Ricoh is almost unknown company in Russia and rather marginal photo brand in the world...

I don't see good future of Pentax...
Thats because you don't know.

Ricoh is a great camera company that made all kind of cameras, from beautiful rangefinders, TLR's, 6X6, Folding cameras. Also I remember in the 80's they had a great SLR line and their mount was the Pentax K mount. They make copiers, Digital duplicators, Fax machines and a host of other sophisticated digital equipment. The company is known much much more than Hoya.
I agree that this is very exciting news indeed.

Let's hope Ricoh do something quickly to show what it intends to do with Pentax. Being sold again is not going to help confidence in the brand unless it can show something new. Otherwise new photographers will just hesitate during this period before buying into Pentax.
Not necessarily. Hoya+Pentax is an unhappy marriage. Like an abuse underappreciated wife , Pentax get shafted in funding + R&D research. Hoya never like the DSLR business, and was trying to unload to JVC before that deal failed through. After JVC's deal collapse, Hoya buried Pentax imaging deep under its technology divisions and Pentax has to share its R&D budget with other assort technology. Result: no new lens made.

Instead of being STUCKED in an unhappy marriage. RICOH is the new handsome Suitor who actually is attracted to Pentax and wants Pentax. So what if Pentax is being sold again or divorce again? This time, Pentax found a partner who actually wants to dance with her. A happy marriage will produce happy result. I'm looking forward to new RICOH announcement in the next PMA

I like your optimism, but the thing that Ricoh will most likely do, right away, is to slash 10% of its workforce. This is going to affect the sellability of the Q even more. Who would want to invest in Q lenses now?

And DA*400/4 or 500/5.6 at least please :-)

Seem there is a lot of synergy

Pentax have an ailing compact division
Richoh have no dlsr product
Yeah, the possibilities there seem quite good at first glance.
If Ricoh really want to make waves then this is the deal that could be the spring board for them.

But if they just want the prestige of a dlsr line the brand could wither and die.
They would be very wise to hang onto the brand, because back in the film days there were Ricoh SLRs and everybody knew they were the very bottom of the market.

Companies do share trademarks. For example AB Volvo sold its car to division to Ford who sold it to a Chinese group who still retain the use of the Volvo trademark which also used by AB Volvo on its trucks and buses. Plus AB Volvo bought other truck companies such as Renault who continue to operate under the Renault trademark. So nothing unusual about companies sharing trademarks for different products or a company retaining the trademark of a company it has purchased even if it was involved in the production the same and previously competeing products.

Ricoh has always done unique things so it seems like a good fit to me. Just like most people I worry when there is change and unknowns, but The initial indication is that they are going to continue building cameras and as long as they make good K-mount ones that are priced competitevely I will be happy.

One of my Ricoh's

Q is total disaster, Ricoh should deal with this issue right away, either they have to put a bigger sensor into it or lower the price of Q if they don't want to change anything or just cancel the Q entirely and design a new mirrorless camera from scratch.

I sincerely hope your are correct in your assessment. Can't wait to see the new annoucements. Maybe some roadmaps for lenses? and plans to update flash units too? So long, Hoya.
