Got a chance to get to B and H on a trip to N.Y. All I can say is if you ever get a chance you need to see this place. Its run well and has so much stuff its frightening. From the merchandise,to the way you are helped,to the final sale this is one first class store. We are here after a week in Gloucester Mass , for a business trip for my wife in Manhattan.Coming from California and to see all the stuff they had is impressive. Its not uncommon to stand on the corner and see cab after cab stop here while out pops a person sporting a big DSLR....loved it.

I've never met a fellow photographer that wouldn't want to pay B&H or Adorama a visit when in NYC. Definitely I will someday

An entire City block of electronics, of which a bit more than half are optical products. I used to go to these store front camera stores, and going to B&H is mind jolting...

And it's the ONLY place I've ever shopped where they talked me out of a purchase, even though they had no substitute. I find that even more of a wonder then the place itself... :)

What did you not buy at the end?

You know, I really can't recall, except that it was a hundred bucks or so. Some doo-dad that I really wanted. But the incident made a dramatic impression at the time. Nothing like that has ever happened to me before or since.

Definitely a recipe for success! The customer feels that his best interest is taken into account and not the almighty dollar.

I used to live in Singapore until recently and would frequent a mall with 7 stories of electronics. Many of the stores were photography shops. Most were virtually empty. But one called John 3:16 had a similar business model to B&H... customer's welfare is more important than the dollar.... and their store was always packed from the time they opened til the time they closed!

It is the only place where I find things that I did not know existed but desperately want! Bad on the wallet, although I agree that the staff gives honest advice, including not buying things.

RULE #1: I buy from B&H

RULE #2: If they don't have it in stock I wait.

RULE #3: If I get really impatient I refer to Rule #1.

Thanks,
Keith

You must not have taken much harm from not buying it, if you do not exactly remember :-)

This incident occured about seven years ago. I remember wanting that do dad. And I remember discussing it with the sales people. And after the conversation was over, I remember feeling like an idiot... :(

The Lord in his wisdom has blanked out exactly what I wanted.

But the uniquness of the experience is what I remember, and will never forget.

Go figure... :(
