Downgrade FW4 to FW3

Sorry guys this is paranoia.
Agree. The limit in normal modes has always been 1600.
All the described behaviors are absolutely unchanged since v1.

The AMB and HHT are the only auto modes to go beyond iso 1600 (not sure if iAuto may opt for using AMB or HTT on occasion - mine has not)
I never use iAuto, so I dunno about that, but agree that AMB would go down to 6400 if needed. HHT, I'm not sure if it went that low or not. Not as quickly, anyway.
The camera with v4 is tons more responsive, start up time i brought from 2 to 4 second to virtually zero.
The turn-on was already pretty fast in v3.

What I'm wondering about is if the AF is faster. Hard to tell, as the speed of AF depends on if it is already "close" due to its constant focusing.
I am not sure about the effects things I never use this type of c* p. The peaking is kinda nice - for now it causes me to miss shots more then help wiht quick focus though :-)
The peaking is really nice. Easier for me to MF.

Just to agree with the above couple posts, ISO 1600 has always been the limit in PAS (or iAuto) with ISO auto enabled. This is nothing new at all.

If you want to change it, just do a user-selected ISO (not hard at all).

As for being "slower" my camera stays in M (manual) so I can't tell you about the wheel speed. What I can say is menus are the same speed and start-up is MUCH faster.

Oh just to comment on missing with peaking. If you have this issue, take peaking off of "high."

The levels are more of tolerances as to what it will activate peaking and how much contrast is needed. Yes, high makes it more visible but also shows you things that are not in focus at times. Bare this in mind when you activate it. Always use the lowest setting possible to ensure you get a sharp picture.

It's interesting reading what everyone has to say. Thanks..!!! :)

I have gone back and had a look at photos taken before V4, and looking at the metadata (in Aperture) I certainly have shots with an ISO higher than 1600. Some are 6400. These were all taken with Auto White Balance and iAuto mode. No fiddling, just plain iAuto.

Sorry, I am novice, so iAuto suits me!

Am I missing something here?

maybe sony did change the iAuto mode.... its going to hard for people on this forum to confirm since most people dont use iAuto here :P

just take it as Sony is making you to learn a bit more about your camera and photography :D

Are you sure you weren't using HHT (handheld twilight mode) or AMT (Anti Motion Blur)?
These modes generally use ISO 6400.

As a thought, move over to P (program) mode and you'll get similar features to iAuto but have a little control, I believe P allows you to manually set the ISO speed, an added bonus is you can also adjust the EV of the picture (make it brighter or darker) which will help you immensely with taking pictures during mid-day.

Just to recap here:

Scene modes can (and have) been able to exceed ISO 1600, as some include "night portrait" which functions similar to HHT or AMB. iAuto (to my knowledge) has always been capped similar to auto-iso which is ISO 1600.

My guess is you intentionally or accidentally used either SCN (scene) mode or HHT/AMB. Both of which are near iAuto on the dial.

Thanks for the reply. I do need to investigate other modes..!!!

I am absolutely 100% certain the shots I have were totally iAuto. No AMB, HHT or scene modes.

Yes, and this was the case with the previous version too. For proof, just check the NEX manual (see screenshot here:

)

By the way, when version 5 comes out, using v4 will be inevitable if you want the 5...
well, AutoISO in aperture priority is also limited to 1600

I think it is mostly me being clumsy with peaking.

I use Jupiter 8 50/2 lens and constantly back focus if I use peaking.

yesterday I were taking snap of my daughter and her grand parents ...she was standing a bit in front and is out of focus completely :-( I messed up metering as well and her skin is overblown add the softness and I am disappointed.

I guess more practice is needed and perhaps more expensive lens.

It seems in bright sunlight peaking works rather well, more difficult in dim light.

is downgrade even possible? i wouldnt try that. its starting to sound like a jailbreak forum
