Hey all, I've already got a 520 and 420 but since the 420 is so good at IR photography I'm thinking about picking up a backup. I found one locally at a Walmart but it was obviously previously purchased and returned WITH NO WARRANTY CARDS! It also has 1566 shutter releases on it but for about $200 it still seems a good deal.

-- BEGIN RANT:

I absolutely can't stand dishonest weasels who purchase things with no intention of keeping them. They simply intend to borrow the item for a weekend, family trip, or wedding and then return it. Self-absorbed jerks!... I guess they just feel they deserve it. The rest of us just have to put up with the restricted return policies and higher prices resulting from their bottom-dweller behavior.

long slow breaths... ah I feel better now.

Anyhow, have any of you had experience trying to get warranty work done by Olympus WITHOUT the warranty cards. Obviously I will still have a valid receipt (probably will be serialized) for the camera sold as new.

I'm just a little worried about getting a camera with possibly no warranty at all.

Thanks,

Scott

They should be able to answer your question. If the serial number never was registered, it MAY count as a new camera.

in the US, the 'warranty card' is a fake. its a marketing gimmick. its not required for warranty work by any reasonable manuf.

sales receipt is what you need.

now, if the camera was registered with oly, that makes it harder, but with the retail store receipt, you should be able to call oly and re-register.

the store receipt is what you need. bingo cards are for suckers and only help marketing.

As long as you have a receipt that is all that you need. The warranty cards are not required to get warranty service. But be sure that the store was selling as new and not as-is without warranty.

The WalMart Rental Program.

It wouldn't be if more people had some character.

I did, with my E-620. Provided the date of purchase and serial number. Olympus emailed me an extended warranty for an extra year (free of charge) which I am now using, since the camera quit in March owing to electronic issues. I sent in the original card with sales receipt, but what actually worked was the online registration. I sent them a copy of that, and they honored it.

Yep, if you call Olympus they will ask if you have your receipt, not your warranty card. It's a stupid system, but that's how it is. That's one reason why I like buying at a place like Amazon, as I can always go back and find my receipt and print it.
