Read some comments about a YN-560 and Cactus V5 receivers. Will this be ok for an off camera flash? Any other recommendations? Cheaper the better. Thanks

I think either option will work fine. The D3100 flash won't work as a CLS flash commander, nor does the camera support high speed flash sync. Those are the two things that those lower end wireless triggers won't support either. So I think it makes a wise choice for the D3100. Why pay $$$ for a wireless trigger that does CLS or high speed sync when the body doesn't support either of those features.

I think the D3100 does support CLS, but just does not have a built-in commander:

From http://imaging.nikon.com: "Advanced Wireless Lighting supported with SB-900, SB-800, or SU-800 as commander; Flash Color Information Communication supported with built-in flash and all CLS-compatible flash units"

By the way, I have a YN-460 II and a Yongnuo RF-602 set and they work fantastically for their money :)

Can I run a non-Nikon flash with the cord(sorry do not know the name) that runs from my hot shoe?
