Downgrade FW4 to FW3

I am not sure, but I suspect that low light performance seems different with FW4.

Any comments or observations?

Also, there must be a way to downgrade the firmware. Any ideas how...???

Thank you all...!!!!

Different on what way? A firmware upgrade should not alter the inherent performance ability of the APS-C sensor's size. Are you seeing changes in overall "brightness" in the image with one of the art filters? That would be expected, especially with the sepelctive color, "toy" Holga style filter, etc.

Test it on a known subject in low light...something you've shot before in the same conditions. Ditch the art filtering and shoot as you did without them even being available. I think you'll find that in normal modes, nothing is different.

I'm sure there is some way of reverting to an older firmware version...I'm not sure why on earth you'd want to, but...

I definitely want to try FW3 again.

All the shots I have taken in low light now in auto mode will go no further than 1600 ISO. I am 100% certain that FW3 would use 3200 and 6400ISO in auto mode.

There must be a way to downgrade the firmware.

By auto mode do you mean P or iAuto? I am pretty sure in P it never go beyond 1600 in v3 unless you are using AMB. Not sure about iAuto tho :P

Most manufacturers build in a block to install an older version of the firmware.

It may require a hack to overcome any such builtin block.

I know for a fact that Panasonic blocks downgrades. Not sure about Sony. If you have the v3 firmware update you can try running it. If it stops and doesn't let you proceed, then Sony is blocking a downgrade.

Since no one else has reported any such problems, are you sure it is firmware related?

Actually I have had firmware problems.. see my post as well. My Menus - especially when scrolling through the shoot mode via the toggle wheel are much slower.. Plus i noticed that my Autofocus motor gets engaged while I am scrolling through.. I really dont care so much about the added art modes.. I wish I could downgrade back to V.3

I have shots that were taken in iAuto mode that are 6400 ISO with a 1/30 shutter speed. Firmware v4 will not go past 1600 ISO, which means a slow shutter speed and blurring.

Am I missing something here?

hmm, I get the same 1600 iso problem? in iauto.. Not that I want higher iso in iauto anyhow, as for me this is about as high as I want it in iauto.... But yes, confirmed on my end in total darkness.

Thanks for checking this as well. In my mind there is no doubt that low light performance is worse in full auto mode.

One of the main reasons I bought this camera was to be able to shoot auto in low light. Now I can't....

I have contacted Sony for an answer. I doubt I will get one. But I want this camera restored to V3 firmware.

One could argue that the low light performance is actually better...iso 1600 is cleaner than 6400. Not trying to be a jerk, but perhaps Sony thinks of this as a fix?

I just checked...in aperture priority I can select iso 12800. Isn't that OK? Auto means you give up control to those who designed the camera....ditch it and use aperture priority is my advice to you.

+1 Totally agree..I understand that there's people who still want to use the NEX as a point and shoot, but ditching into more things it's always better, maybe you'll get more happy with the results of your own decisions than the decisions that the camera takes at certain moments.

Sorry guys this is paranoia.

All the described behaviors are absolutely unchanged since v1.

The AMB and HHT are the only auto modes to go beyond iso 1600 (not sure if iAuto may opt for using AMB or HTT on occasion - mine has not)

The camera with v4 is tons more responsive, start up time i brought from 2 to 4 second to virtually zero.

I am not sure about the effects things I never use this type of c* p. The peaking is kinda nice - for now it causes me to miss shots more then help wiht quick focus though :-)

well, AutoISO in aperture priority is also limited to 1600

Auto ISO was always 1600 in al firmwares. Maybe you ARE confusing anti-blur and htt modes.
